On saturday 3:15 pm a beautiful big bear steps out 60 yeards away broad side. I put the cross hairs behind the shoulder and fire, at the shot the bear shutters and then bolts in the laurels. I hear one big crash and then silence. I chamber another round and wait----nothing, no more crashing. I backed out to get my buddy who was about 500 yards away-- sad part-- (who also saw the bear right before I did which passed 20 yard in front of his blind, put the cross hairs on the bear squeeses the trigger and CLICK the saftey was on his 450 marlin). We go back to the spot where I had shot, and find a good blood trail that lead into heavy laurels. It was tough trying to follow in this thick stuff, light started to fade and we decided to come back in the a.m. with everyboby available. As we all know it rained all night and half of Sunday--of course no blood or tracks left , so I decided to call a tracking service (with dogs) in the morning, he said he could not come because his dogs were worn out from the day before. I had 8 friends walk around hopeing for a miracle----no such luck. I will be going back out tomorrow.

When a bear dies 99% of the time it gives out a moan known as the "DEATH MOAN" bears are tough animales they aren't like a deer they will not bed down and try to heal. I feel what your goin thru, I lost a big buck here in NJ a few years ago during the archery season. Good Luck !!!!
