Why are some people idiots?
So I get to my public hunting spot this morning for M/L season. There is a guy already in the parking area so I ask him where he wants to hunt since he was there first. Of course we wanted the same spot so I wished him luck while I figured out where I was going to now. I trimmed a pine tree a few months ago so I decide to go there. As I'm getting ready, another guy pulls up. We talk and I tell him where I am going. He says he knows where the tree is and that he is going to another spot near a corn field. I get up the tree and all situated in my stand. Just as I turn around to sit down, I see a flashlight coming towards me from the corn field. The same guy walks to within 40 yards of me and sits on a stool. I'm all ticked off now so I climb down, put my stand in my truck and just go to another spot and sit on my butt. I fall asleep around 7:30 and wake up around 9 to the sound of my own snoring. Only thing I saw was a doe around 250 yards away and walking from me. [&:]
I guess the positive part of the day is I went scouting and found a nice tree where 6 trails converge and it's about 3/4 of a mile from the parking area. Guess where I'm going next week?

That's just not right Mossy.
Hopefully I will be alone since it is a little hike from the parking area. Most peeps are lazy and I'm going on a Friday. I think I will get there around 5 and just fall asleep in my stand. Set the phone to vibrate around 6:30.
This spot is at a stream crossing between a corn field and hardwoods. Might have been better before they cut the corn but the traffic still looks heavy. Maybe I will get lucky.

One I picked 3 different locations on a piece of public land. On my way to my first pick I see a flashlight flashing at me. Ok spot number 2...Same thing Ok spot 3 and you gessed it same thing! Well not knowing where to go I figure I will find a spot to sit until it is light enough to find a good spot. I sit under a large pine tree and wait. As the light picks up enough for me to start to see I realize I can't see more than 15 yards in any direction. I'm surrounded by pine trees. So, I figure I'll let it get a little brighter out and find a new spot. 5 minutes later feeling very upset that my 3 best spots are taken a hunter walks in behind me and cuts right in front of me without ever seeing me! He's walking in the direction I want to go and find a stand. I think to myself can anything else go wrong here? All the sudden right from where the hunter walked in comes a nice 5 point buck running right at me at about 10 feet away. BOOM! my hunt was over. It's a crazy thing hunting public lands! The right place at the right time!

i wrote a song called hunting the public lands blues ive been there many times before. the only advice i can give is to use your flashlite and flash that thing back at him like a disco show!. most will move on but some dont care. one time i got down from my tree and told a guy who set up 50 yards from me that i like to think were not fishing opening day of trout season in the river shoulder to shoulder but he didnt care. most seem to think thats a far enough distance but i think 100 yards is more fair. theres plenty of woods to hunt. most of my hunting buddies would have gave the person hell who showed up and screwed up the hunting being that close. they would yell or even fire off shots if they had to just to screw up that guys hunting. i could never be that way and im glad you didnt do anything in that manner. when something like this happens my softy side kicks in and im always thinking that it could be an old timer , young kid, or first timer that just dont understand the big picture. hang in there. remember up in the tree you have a better chance to shoot the deer first anyway. i would just hunt the first couple hours then get down and just explain things to the other hunter. they even might learn something
