Imagine my surprize this morning when opening THE MORNING CALL newspaper to Sec B pg 7. To see Alt holding a big rack above his head. For all to see " as a prime example of just what a Lehigh co. , Pa buck will become in just 3-4 yrs..." ( his words). and never mentioning where that buck was killed. See I went to the sport show lastnight. My fourth time to hear Alt speak. His topic remains the same but his half truths still ring clear. the half truth in this case was the rack he is seen holding in the paper. It was killed in Lehigh co alright..but that's where the whole truth ends. It was killed by an aquaintance of mine. that hunts a large section of private ground that bordes the Trexler game preserve. This guy has sole hunting rights to this place. I'm not jealous of that. i envy him for it.And he did kill that buck with a bow this past season there.
But I ask you as I did Alt. Is this a prime example of the caliber of buck that 99.99% of the hunters will get to hunt in the future under his QDM plan and AR? No it is not. Why? Because that first rack that spike or Y gets with 3 or more points to a side will get him killed. The same % of bucks will be killed when they get that first scrubby rack as get killed now as spikes and Y. all we did was let them get thier first rack. Now I ask again. Is it right for Alt to hold up a rack like the one he has in the paper and use it to sell his QDM plan, while saying "it is not fair to call these programs trophy deer mamagement programs" ( his words)?

Imagine that!!!!!! Dont shock me any.Ask your buddy Where alt hunts and report back here.Dont seem like some people believed me when I mentioned Alts hollow hunting grounds.Your right this aint a big buck program ,its a program to bring the over populated deer herd in check.Where ever that place is????? I just went and looked at that picture again of Alt holding up that rack.Nice rack,but nothing special I know people including myself were shooting buck like that since the 50"s in Pa. in the Southeastern Part of the state where there is to many doe according to the experts,Go figure?

cardeer: I beg to differ with you on your statement of nothing special. in regards to that pictured rack. I agree the picture does not do the rack justice. But it did score over 160 BC. . and It matters little where anyone hunts, that is a big buck anywhere the whitetail roams.
My point was and is that while Alt waves a rack like this under the unknowing hunter's nose. he is letting them assume this is the type of rack they can expect to see in just a few years. I say not so. We kill about 85% of our yearling bucks..or we were doing that. Now we let those yearlings grow another year or two. We still are going to kill around 85% of them. They will never get to grow to 5 yrs old not even 4. all Alt has accomplished is the same kill rate on bucks that have small 3 & 4 pt racks.
You are correct he is selling that big buck mentality to the hunters to get number reductions statewide...and sadly sooooo many ill informed are sucking it up.

So people that believe Alt are not too bright? You behave yourself and I won't tell.

Well that must be a bad pic then,didnt look that big,but I will stick with that many I know shoot deer like that in Pa.,they just dont paste the pics all over.Surprises me all the time when I visit some of my elderly neighbors and see the racks they have on there wall from around here.Thanks for the size clarification.
