Hi all, i am a resident of north jersey but i mostly hunt in ny. i have a few things i am curious about if anyone can help
1. if i am a legal hunter from ny and have had hunter safety courses do i still need to retake take them to get a hunting liscense in new jersey.
2. i have been told that you cant hunt in nj unless you first get some kind of firearms safety permit for transporting a gun here in nj is that true?
any help is greatly appreciated i would really like to get more time to hunt this year and new jersey seasons run much later than new york....dan

if you have a license from any State (RESIDENT) You don't need to take the test. But if you just have firearm lic. and you wanted to hunt bow, Yes you need to take a test. Same with Smokepole.

If you took the test in NY for firearm, archery, muzzleloader, then NJ wiil accept it. As far as transporting, and or hunting with a firearm: You must at all times while in possesion of a firearm ( ie transporting, hunting ) carry your NJ FIREARM PURCHASE ID CARD

I moved to NJ from PA. I showed them my PA Resident license...and they issue me a NJ Firearms license.
However, I needed to take the NJ archery course/test before they issued me a NJ Archery license. My PA license did not have the archery sticker on it...same goes for muzzleloader.
