Thanks for sharing the pics! I almost forgot about that deer that you found right near a quad trail--what a shame.
I really wish that Jersey would do more QDM but it's such a touchy subject as you guys are fiding out in PA.
See ya

I hope to settle the more nutrious food problem this spring when I plant a 3 acre food plot. Lets see, that will be the very nutrious food plot, woods that are mostly white oaks, corn field, and alfalfa field withing 200 yards of each other. The genetics in this part aren't bad at all, but they aren't Kansas/Illinois/Iowa good, hopefully the food plot will help out. There are bucks around here that easily would go 270 live weight, I can't imagine them with a huge food plot to feed at.

What's a 5.5 year old buck, they can live that long???
Seriously, Might catch heck for this, but...I wouldn't be surprised if that 5.5 year old didn't have that great of genes! good genes would get that rack to 180, bad, 150. What's it score?
Food+Age=a great buck: add in a little superior genitics and you still end up with...a great buck. You should see some of the genetically inferior 8-points a friend of mine culls from his management herds-150P&Y, 200+ field-dressed bucks are "out the door".

The 1.5 and the 3.5 look similar, like they may have some same genes in them. I think someone else said too and I agree that the 5.5 had poor genes or it would have been bigger.

They were aged by teeth. This area is nothing but corn fields/alfalfa fields, thick brush, crab apple trees, and the woods are pretty much solid white oaks. There is tons of food around, and this isn't hunted very hard.

here are two deer from maryland aged by my taxidermist, the first is 6 1/2, and the second is 5 1/2.
in maryland deer usually dont live this long, they are usually killed by hunter or car, but i guess these are some exceptions.
we just dont have the gene pool that they have in the mid west, plus there are more deer competing for the same food sources in smaller areas.
i do agree that i have never seen a basket rack that was 1 1/2, i would be more inclined to say he was 2 1/2.
