MD Hunt Final Preperation
#151
Sorry about not making it on the 5th guys but I'll be there on the 6th if you guys are gonna be there then. I know my dad has every Friday off for the rest of the year so he may still make it on the 5th, I talked to him yesterday and he said he was going down this Friday if anyone will be there.

Looks like I am going to have to back out also. I just found out I will be heading down to the Eastern Shore Thursday night and won't be back until Saturday, if I am lucky.

ok, so now it looks like it really is down to the mossy, lefty, slicey, and davidlj show, wow I guess we dont have to worry about our intial thoughts of finding everybody a stand!! I guess we can just pair up, and hunt. I will probably still head down to my original stand at the stream crossing, depending on the level of rutting activity there, and at my farm, I may hunt only the morning. I was really hoping since we picked a date so far out, that everybody could have made it, but I understand things come up. Lefty, I am on vacation starting this sat for 5 weeks, so if you want to hit monacacy one day next week let me know, I was hoping to find a tree maybe 10 or so yards back from the one I originally picked, because visability was so crappy.

I hunted Monocacy Saturday morning 10-30. Saw a bunch of deer. Of course most of them were bucks since I brought my ML for the last day of antlerless ML season.
I almost got a shot at a big doe at 30yds, but a downed tree limb was blocking my shot. I probably should have taken the shot, about a 50-50 chance of hitting her, but I am trying to be as ethical as possible and make sure I get a clean shot and a quick kill. I was waiting for her to take another step for a clear shot, but something startled her and she (along with the 8 pt. she was with) took off. I hope next week brings out some more deer. Good luck on the 5th!

At least you are seeing deer Rick which is more than I can say. Where at were you hunting? Did you take one of the spots we picked out awhile back or just find a new one. My Dad was down all day on Friday and didn't see a single deer. He was back in pretty far though past the fields Lefty and I hunted in last time I was down.

we went saturday evening, and out of the 3 of us we saw 1 deer, I was in my stand at the stream crossing, my buddy was in the tree erics dad picked out, right up the hill from me, and my other buddy was in erics tree, all we saw was one doe, and a couple of muzzleloader hunters, shooting alot, one nearly knocked me outta my tree, scared the crap outta me. I think, as hunting season goes on, so many guys are hunting on the fringes (where we hunt) that the deer are being pushed back. I did see about 15 scrapes, down where that big white oak had peoples names carved in it, but no deer.

I found another spot, guess I just got lucky seeing all those deer. There were several ML hunters on the ground, I think they were pushing the deer up my way. This is the second year in a row I have had to pass on a nice buck because I brought my ML for antlerless and left my bow at home!

Thats why I hit that back side Mossy, the deer get a lot of pressure from the front main parking area and it pushes the deer back. I will probaly be out there Thurs, Fri and Sat so hopefully I will have some luck with one of those big boys. For everyone that is hunting on Friday, what time do you guys want to meet up?

I wanted to wait and see this morning what time it got light, before I suggested a time, it started to get light at around 5:30, we would probably want to be in stand sometime around 5-5:10? I would really like to hunt back in further that day, Im convinced that will be out best bet, so I will need to go with you, (Ive never been back there). You know how long of a walk it is, so what time would we have to meet so that we could get geared up and make it all the way back there to get set up by 5 or so? maybe we should make a new thread, kindof a last call to see whos coming? Ill pm one of the moderators to see if he can pin it up top.
