Another way to get a tic out if its head is burried under the skin put finger nail polish on it. Cover its back completely, this makes it so they cant breathe and they back out. Works well.

I went to a seminar on lyme disease and the Dr. said you should not put anything on the tick to make it back out because when they back out they regurgitate into your blood stream increasing the chance of infection. To remove the tick you should use fine pointed tweezers grab close to the head and pull it out. Check www.ladbv.org for more info on lyme disease. All ticks can carry lyme disease

Ticks DO NOT burrow into / under the skin! They insert their mouth parts into the host's skin to withdraw fluid. DO NOT use fire, nail polish or any other "wive's tail" remedy. Grasp the tick with fine tweezers and gently pull off. Apply antiseptic to the bite site. Ticks need a blood meal for survival and will drop off dead animals once the body temperatures drop severely (indicating death). They are not going to live in freezers or grow new heads. Not all ticks spread / vector disease. They can go a long time without a blood meal though. Use repellents when afield.
