The only thing that comes to my mind when I hear the term flintnapping, is the making of either arrowheads, spearpoints, or knives out of flint. Napping is the tecnique of flakeing the flint to make a sharp cutting edge, and to form the shape. You might want to ask him CD. It's something I always thought would be cool to learn how to do.

Napping flint is an art. You start with a chunk of obsidian. Then you bust it into smaller pieces known as flakes (flint). The flakes are then "napped" into other items. (Broadheads are popular for traditionalists)
This is a broad overview...and there's obviously a lot more to it, and I'm no expert...but a guy I work with naps flint, and he is trying to get me into it. He actually killed a deer last year in Ohio with a home-made longbow, hand made ash arrows with turkey feathers from a bird he killed, and flint broadheads.

Cardeer, I know a couple of flintknappers.
They use a tine from a deer rack to chip arrow heads, spearheads, small game points, etc. It is amazing to watch them work. 15-20 minutes to make a spearhead of about 8" in length. Looks like it just came from a museum.
