Bowhunted the last 2 days in area 2B. Here are the totals. Bucks seen: 7,
AR legal...5 (two had lost one side) doe seen: 27. This from two hunters sitting the first couple hours and then putting small on concentrated drives to each other in the middle of suburbia. we had chances at 2 of the legal bucks but one had shed a side and the other was small 8. We shot 2 does and mised another.
Oh yeah, one one drive we put out 2 nice ones! One of the bucks was about 120" and one was easily 130-135!!
Not a bad 2 days!

Keep hunting them backyards. 2B is city of Pittsburgh, no? Allegheny County? Hunting private land? Your hunting experience is an anomoly to most of us. Go to: http://www.tnonline.com/online/columns/connection.html

BTW where were u hunting in 2B. I hunt in westmoreland county and only went out today . Here are my totals, 19 deer seen , 1 buck , couldnt tell size he was in the thicket. I might hunt some of allegheny county next week , monroeville area. Maybe we can get together and do a late season hunt.

MikeE, I know BTB real well. He probably was hunting Allegheny county since he has some honeyholes there. Area 2B covers a bunch of westmoreland county too. I have been seeing some good bucks in the farm country as well.
Just too dang stubborn to take the smokepole yet. Can`t quite get `em in bow range yet.

Harmarville area, Double lung. Some open to all and some very private. I noticed that there was almost no one out anywhere I was. THAT includes property that is wide open, unposted and holds plenty of deer. Email me and I can be more specific.
MikeE, if My hunting experiences dont interest you, dont read em. Personally, I haven't seen much of Mr Slinsky's work but based on what I've seen I realy don't want to see more.
BC If you're interested and available a bunch of us may go up to the ANF with the smoke poles for the last day. We'll stomp out Buzzard Swamp.
Have you hit our buddy Earls place? I may take Bert there this week if I can pry him away from his new Playstation!
Have now burned my last 2B doe tag but will be out with the bow chasin those big bucks Red and I saw from Wed afternoon through Saturday.

Well where I live in Armstrong Co. they must have gone totally nocturnal. And the does are so skittish all you see is tails.
Tomorrow I am hunting a place in 2B which is in Washington Co. My brother just found this place - very secluded, not hunted... Saturday he saw 3 bucks and many does and they weren't skittish at all. We'll see....

there were very few kills up here in (tidioute) warren county as far as bucks go. i know of a few monsters that are still running around. as far as you fellas who are going to hunt ANF, where abouts?? i may be able to point you in the right direction if you are looking for hot spots to hunt. i don't bow hunt (yet) and i don't own a flintlock, so my deer season is over......next stop mr. bunny trail. starting to get kind of pumped for spring gobbler already!!!

BTB,
I have a much easier time killing deer in apollo than I do in allgheny co.
I was out in 2B friday and saturday. I saw 1 deer, a huge buck. My 2B spots are terrible. All these deer around here and 2B is the hardest place for me to kill a deer.

I've put in my share of unproductive time in Allegheny as well. Funny thing, one of the places I hunt was a hotspot for several years, then it literally got hammered way too hard and the hunting sucked for awhile. Now the deer are back and no one seems to know it yet. BTW, this is an area that isn't posted.
I'll admit though that my best spots are private with just a very few allowed in.
These are generally very small properties where only bowhunting would be feasible. The tough part is getting in and staying in. I've lost many prime spots over the years because one owner sold and the next one did'nt want hunting. You just have to keep plugging away at looking for those sweet spots and schmoozing the landowners. It takes a lot of time year round.
Lastboyscout, We'll be staying at my camp in Tionesta and may hunt around there. we also have had some success around Buzzard swamp near Marienville and may wind up there. Some of the guys may have to stick to ANF property cause they only have DMAP tags left.

BTB i have a camp in Mckean Co. we hunt the ANF alot , and we were there for the first few days of rifle this year. It seemed as there werent as many deer this year , but the ones i did see were hogs. They really have come a long way since the first year i could hunt back in 2000. Our cabin is just outside of Kane, havent taken a bow or smokepole up yet to persue a deer , but im sure it could have its bonus's.
