I watch the outdoor channel and outdoor life network. i don't remember ever seeing anybody showing a hunt in PA. I am by no means a professional hunter, but i know a few guys up around my way who grew up here in the mountains that really know their stuff........that makes for some fantastic footage. do you guys know if any of the networks are looking for fresh material to use on their shows??

Sorry can't say I have ever seen any PA hunts on TV either. Maybe if these antler restrictions stay in place for a few more years we might see some, but I wouldn't mind makin a few home videos with your friends until then..

TLBS,
I think the reason that you don't see that much televised hunting in the Northeast is because of the lack of game preserves or very large tracks of land that are controlled by individuals or groups who sell hunts. These guys on TV and in videos are usually saving their best "Un-hunted" animals for the people who can offer them the most television exposure. Free hunts for free advertising. I'm not saying that all you see in videos and on TV isn't real, but it's definitely not the way your average hunter's season goes. How do guys like Bill Jordan and the Primo's team do it? Whacking 150, 160,170 class Whitetails every time they hit their stands.
I don't think the oppotunities are as great up in the Northeast for these guys. I don't know of any outfitters around here who could guarantee a buck in the class that they seem to shoot. I have had experience with one guy who advertised 3000 acres of "Private" hunting land in NY's Southern Tier. It was total BS. He's been thrown off more property than you could ever imagine! The guy was a common thief. What he does is not cool.
I'm not saying that there aren't high caliber bucks around here either, because there are. They just aren't as accessible. If you can guarantee that you or your friends can put them on a serious P&Y buck, by all means, give them a call. I'd love to hear what they say.
Other than a Pheasant hunting show that aired last Fall, I can't remember anything else that was taken in NY. I've seen a few about Pa, but not many.
Historically, the Mid-West and Texas seem to be the place to go. That's where most videos and TV shows are filmed. I assume that they are hunting unpressured, protected animals. You won't find too many like that around where we live.
Just my take on it.
Take Care,
John

There was a wild turkey hunt in NJ this past Spring that aired on Spike. I did see a BuckMasters hunt in PA a couple of years ago but I believe it was at some preserve in Western PA.

this is all the more reason to televise "real" hunts out of the northeast. real hunts for real hunters. i've seen huge bucks taken right out of the areas that i hunt. when i say huge i mean HUGE!! if i can gather some of the photos of the deer that were taken around here i think some of you guys would be amazed. i've never killed a buck that made P&Y or B&C.... but i know a few guys personally that have. actually have you guys ever heard of Matt Vancise?? He's a world champion turkey caller out of Titusville, Pa (about a 20 minute drive from here). He's my wife's cousin. He either makes or is sponsored by a local turkey call maker named "Kill'r Calls".....fantastic mouth calls, nobody else around here uses anything else. anybody ever heard of it?? if not you definately need to try these calls.

Bob Kirschner has several videos that have alot of fair chase PA hunting in them. Penns woods killed a very good buck on public land in PA last year too.
Hunting high pressured areas is NOT the norm for video makers for obvious reasons. They need to get quality footage to make any money.
I have no problem with that.

I also watch the Outdoor Channel and I did catch a fire chase Deer hunt in PA on one of the shows and it was interesting.
Besides the canned kills and high fence hunts on the shows you also get the hunts from out West where it is actually a combination of a hunting show and advertisement for the Outfitters. I don't see anything wrong with those shows as long as they treat their average customer as well as they do the film crew.
I've hunted fair chase with outfitters on public land that have been featured and I was more than pleased with my hunt.
