Whats the best state to hunt in(this region)for big bucks??

I don`t know what you would consider ........" this region" ?
Ohio is far and away the best chance for top end bucks without going the whole way to the midwest.
Unless Kentucky is closer to you than Ohio. Many states produce a couple big bucks now and again. The two states named above produce top end monsters on a regular basis.

Northern New York, Adirondacks. If you can pattern a big one, he' ll score above 160.
The trick is to find ' em.
The big boys are in every state, you just have to put in the time...

sorry guys, have to disagree with you all. around here, if you want a real monster, head to maine. talked with my friend who guides up there, he only had a couple of small ones to report at his store this year, the biggest one only had a twenty inch spread, and just topped 233, dressed. and he was disappointed in seeing that one. one got brought to northern vermont to show off from maine, the bruiser had 14 points, and weighed, dressed, 270lbs! and that was after having traveled from maine for who know's how long!

I am seeing the biggest bucks coming from areas that are on the fringe of suburbia that have limited hunting. Some monsters have been coming out of Monmouth County, NJ / Westchester County, NY / Suffolk County, NY. Look for a place where a bowhunter may be allowed to hunt in an area that is somewhat suburban and you will see an older age class of bucks simply due to the limited hunting.

I agree with B-88. Look at Monroe County in Western NY. It is the home to Rochester and its suburbs. Has been named on many occasions to be one of the best counties for big bucks in the country.
Upstate NY I think is the quiet one, which I dont mind, cause the deer are huge here, and good numbers. Majority of NY's county producers are in the 8 region. Still I would look at Monroe, Livingston, and Ontario for the farmland bucks that get big on a steady food supply.

Agree with the comment that there are big boys just about anywhere, the key is to find a pocket that holds good genetics and then focus on them.
There have been some outstanding bucks taken in populated areas here in Mass. that will really grab your attention. But also, as someone else said Maine and the Northern states hold big bucks......but they don't come easy, you might be lucky to see one deer in a couple days of hunting. If that's your ticket then go for it.
I have yet to graduate to strictly mature bucks, I still enjoy filling my tags with does and rack bucks, haven't gotten too choosy as of yet.

All depends on where you live. My vote goes to Maine. It's in my backyard and I spend no time traveling. less travel = more time hunting = more time to see that bommer buck.
