RE: 800 POUND BLACK BEAR KILLED, LOOK HERE!!!!!
hey PA guys, i need some answers here! do you weigh in your bears at a weigh statio? are they supposed to be field dressed, and if so, why refer to the weights as 800+ if they ain't field dressed? i talked with a bear guide from maine last night, ne said that 800, dressed is impossible. i believe that the world record from new brunswick, dressed, was around 800. but you guys are making it sound like you are breaking the record left and right. what's the deal?

RE: 800 POUND BLACK BEAR KILLED, LOOK HERE!!!!!
All of our bears are weighed at weigh stations. They also remove a tooth from the bear to age it and write down the ear tag number if there are any present. At the time of weigh in all bears are field dressed. Now wether these are dressed weights or calculated live weights I can not be sure as I did not post them. However I would not be surprised if these weights would be dressed out. The guide in Maine is wrong for saying 800 lbs dressed is impossible. Ask him if he ever hunted PA bruins and if he has had the opportunity to see a live 900+ lb bear in the wild. As I have posted earlier I have spoken with game commission officers who have in fact tranquilized and weighed 3 bears all going over 900 lbs live weight here in PA. It's funny how everyone thinks that new brunswick is the place to go for big bears. I think we should keep this PA's little secret.
