I emailed a guy I know at Fish and Game this week about this issue. He has yet to get back to me, but he always has in the past so I'll report what he has to say.
If everything DEBob has stated on the proposal is true, I'm 100% against it. Gun seasons in Sept! Weekend shooting all October! You'll have the deer nocturnal by Mid October. Not only will the quality of hunting drop dramatically for the bow hunter, I wouldnt be suprised if the kill after the 1st year would go down, totally defeating the purpose of the new seasons. The deer will adapt and move only at night. Cant shoot them in the dark. Unless they want to allow hunters to walk around with spotlights and change the legal hours to midnight! [:'(] Idiots. Just leave the seasons the way they are.
If the people with the deer damage problems would allow more hunters on their lands, they wouldnt have a problem. As for the insurance lobbiests who want all deer dead to eliminate auto damage claims, I say just shut up and pay up! There cant be that many collisions per year to warrant such an aggressive attempt to cull the herd.
As it is now, I think gun and bow hunters have plenty of opportunities to take a deer. We dont need any changes.
If they want to increase the kill, keep the seasons the way they are and let us hunt on Sundays. I think the extra days would do the trick without going overboard. Just my 2 cents.
