Go out and scout and find areas that have grouse food and like another member said in another post asking where to find grouse, go out in the spring and check various places to see if you hear grouse drumming. You find grouse by burning foot leather, most people will not tell you where they know are good grouse coverts because they spent time and effort to find them. Look for green Briar, beech trees, aspen, hawthorn, wild grape. Find the food, find the grouse.

Sounds like the same type of things our partridge eat.

Thanks for the feed back. Certainly not looking for anyone to give up their honey hole. And I appreciate the advice about spring scouting. I guess I was just wondering if there are grouse in central PA or do you have to travel west near Allegheny National Park to expect an occasional flush?

Yes, there are Grouse in North Central PA.

Last time I hunted Pa long ago I seem to remember being in a state wildlife area that had been logged and brush hogged to provide grouse cover. It was northern PA in the Tioga and Potter areas. I remember seeing a sign saying the area had been worked to provide better bird cover. Perhaps a call to the state wildlife group might give some tips.

I'm in Indiana County and we seem to have decent grouse numbers. Do Like OT said and find areas that look promising. There will probably be grouse in there.
