Much better than what I was expecting. That is the kind of thing that makes grown men "get something in their eyes". That is the perfect buck for the Laddy.

Wonderful story and buck!

I could pick you up on the way through to Ohio for a muzzle hunt?

If it weren't for that job thingy I'd go in a heart beat.

But any time I can get out this time of year is saved for my pup, gotta find some grouse here after Christmas.

Bleu's been patient through deer season but he's ready for some bird hunting now.
Where are you heading for in Ohio & when, maybe we can grab a beer and a burger?

That story does bring tears to your eyes. Jim, that was a great thing you did for Drake. I'm also sure that experience is one that he will remember the rest of his life.
Congratulations to Drake on his fine buck and to you Jim,for adding a special day in that young mans life.

Hope you don't mind, but I enhanced the photo and added a few things. All the changes are saved in a jpeg format so there will be no problems if you wish to make a print from it.

I've got to tell you, this thread really helped snap me out of a funk that I've been in since late November. You see, I was up in NY deer hunting. I was hunting with a guy that has been my hunting bud since 1976. He and I had been all over this country together hunting and fishing, as well as in B.C. bear hunting and elk hunting. One evening he didn't return to his house. Long story short, I found him dead in his treestand later that night from an apparent heart attack.

Needless to say, this season was a bummer for me. But for whatever reason, when I seen this thread and realized that new blood replaces old blood, I began to think more rationally.

Thanks for getting that young man interested and thanks again for a great post.

Yes, it is very hard to let go of old friends. We must accept that the old must depart so that the new can arrive. Somehow God always seems to ease one loss with several new gifts. This is one to cherish, and I hope you have an ever-growing bond with the young man, Jim, and share the best hunting years ahead with him. You may not realize it, but you are helping to shape the man he will be. Your own immortality will be cemented in the stories the boy will relate for the rest of his life.
Success has so many different facets.
