PA' s new WMUs
#1
I was just curious to see how Pennsylvania' s new Wildlife Management Units are going to affect some of my fellow PA hunters this season. For example, a buddy of mine just informed me that in part of our county we will now be able to hunt male and female ringnecks for the first time in recent memory. That extended bear season, should it continue this year, would also apply to that same section of the county.
On the other hand, I will need to apply for two different doe tags to hunt the same piece of property half of which is on one side of the interstate and half on the other side....the interstate is the dividing line for two of the WMUs.
I also happened to see the new doe tag application envelopes....a dull yellow with different address labels depending on which WMU you are applying for. I posted a recent newspaper article showing the upcoming seasons, bag limits and a WMU map of the state down at the local archery pro shop. It will be interesting to hear the comments as folks study it.

Works out good for me![:-] I hunt Monroe & part of Northampton counties & it all falls in the same unit for me. So I can now doe hunt with one license instead of needing one for each county.

On the positive side, the antlerless deer license will entitle you to hunt in a much larger area. Our hunting cabin is on a county line. In the past, I had to be certain that if I took a doe, it was taken on the correct side of the line. Now the license will be good for both counties.

Well it sounds to me like folks are pretty much split on the issue. Those folks that had problems with past doe tag usage areas might have new opportunities while others are now forced to pursue tags in different areas.
Though I am somewhat in the last category I must say that I am happier with the WMU boundaries now rather than the proposed DMUs from previous years.

terrible for me.......they split venango into 4 diffrent sections.......i have spots on 3.....and one is on the line we cant figure out what one to send for.....going to have to really look into it......i dont care.....the only spot i want is the spot we found 2 years ago and since then taken 5 deer from in 3 days hunting it...so in about 9 hrs we killed 5 deer from that spot and i missed one becuase my scope was broken and we didnt know...great spot....hope it stays that way.....ill get a tag for beaver if i still bow hunt like i want to so i can have a good chance at having a deer to take with a bow and 2 for up there if i can....if i dont bow hunt we will try to get 3 each for up there....probally end up with 2...so i guess i dont care....heck..maybe i will hunt other counties in that unit we couldnt before.....i like it for some spots because you can hunt alot more of the same area then before.....
