i should have said report from CLINTON COUNTY in wmu2g in pa.well some good some bad.lets start with GROUSE.this is worst year i have seen on grouse in longtime.i have seen 1 grouse so far with toby and we hunted fairly hard.
turkeys same thing, very few young this year peeps.i think heavy rains in spring and predators and hunting pressure has affected both grouse/turkeys.
BEAR , oh my lots of bear this year BUT most are very small.under 150 pds.
DEER ,not very good.it is hard to even find deer poop.i found 2 piles today but walked miles and saw NONE.
COYOTES seem to be very heavy this fall.barking is above normal and trappers are getting a lot of them.
FOX are growing in numbers also.
thats about it.LOTS of acorns this year also.i still cant get over not seeing a grouse .others have same story.
TICKS are nasty again.
no indication of snow for at least thru thanksgiving.
take care all,SPROUL

Thanks Sproul, I was just up in 4D right on the outskirts of Black Moshannon all day Saturday, had to walked off about 7-8 miles. Saw 1 grouse, no squirrel, no turkey, no chippys, did see a few doe and came across a few nice scrape lines. It really kinda blows when you take the shotgun out for a walk and don't even see anything to shoot at.

I said it once and I'll say it again, coyotes are affecting the deer population more then anticipated.Matter of fact american hunter just had an article on it.
Grouse numbers are pretty good for us 2E.Turkey seems to be down.Hunters I know from potter county are also saying the bird populations are low.But bear numbers are high. Also has an impact on deer populations.

well toby hurt his toe so my GROUSE hunting is over until after christmas.we did see 3 grouse last week for about 3 days hunting in clinton county.
bear kill was big this week in clinton, cameron, lycoming countys.
around 152 in clinton, not many big ones around 125pds.
deer are almost invisible this year, dont laugh i have only seen 1 buck so far for about 3 weeks in woods.bear hunters said they saw a FEW like 2 or 3 doe together.many saw no deer at all.
some saw a NICE buck.very few saw small bucks like spike.very few saw a fawn.
more and more hunters are hunting where they see a deer or bear.for years we would just drive the same areas. not anymore.i saw over 50 bear hunters in a 1 mile area and then no hunters for MILES........they would drive that 1 mile, leave and another crew would come and drive same drive, then leave and another crew drives same drive.
this is what i am seeing in deer season also, driving same drives over and over then going eleswhere to hunt.
HUNTERS are now hunting where they see a bear or buck or doe.then they move some other place.this is causing like 50 hunters to all be in 1 spot.i hunted bear for 3 days and saw no hunters on 1 side of a pipeline where i was sitting in my treestand.100 yds away on the OTHER side of pipeline i saw 50 hunters driving over and over same drives.none of these crews knew each other also.
i have not seen chippy or squireal also, yet lots of acorns.
treestands are being stolen bigtime.they are using dremel tools to cut your chains/cables off.
i never saw such damage to new trucks as i seen this year.YOUNG hunters are really tearing their trucks up.some of these are 35,000 dollar trucks too.they seem to go nutty when they hit woods in my area.we never acted that way to go bear hunting or deer hunting.
most of bucks are with a DOE.this is what i hear is happening.they are not with 2 or 3 doe ,just 1 doe.
buck rubbing are very different this year.bucks are rubbing very large areas, like over 2 miles.i feel its do to lack of doe so bucks are covering VERY large areas.
rut must be over as no one has seen the activity we saw 2 weeks ago with bucks chasing doe, now its buck with 1 doe acting normal.
very cold weather coming for friday/sat.i hope no snow as i like to see a few deer get away for awhile.most like the no doe hunting the first week.i do to.
