I woke up saturday to a light drizzle and almost no snow left on the ground.I decided to take my muzzleloader and hit some public land on Boone mountain which is about 3-4 miles from my house.I had a couple archery spots picked out but decided to take my muzzleloader and hike in with my climber. When I pulled in to where I was going to park,I couldn't believe how much snow was on the gound and it was snowing like crazy.I bet there was 6 inches of heavy snow and more coming down. The wind was wrong to hunt that spot so I decided to leave my climer in the truck and still hunt a different spot.Walking in,i had to navigate in the dark around dozens of sassafras trees that were bent over from the heavy snow.I saw some tracks here and there but but it got really good when I headed into the wind along some thick laurel patches that paralleled some oak flats. As soon as it got light I jumped a couple deer and decided to plant myself not far from where I saw them. They weren't that spooked, definately didn't wind me and often times will come filing back within several minutes.I was standing next to a tree and about 10 minutes later I caught movement off to my left.Off in the distance,I could see several deer filtering my way slowly through several downed tops. There were 7 in all and when the closest one got to about 60 yards and turned broadside,I shot.To my amazement,I shot right over the top of despite the fact that I had a steady rest. After making sure it was a clean miss,I headed home to shoot the gun.As it turned out,the gun was shooting about 6 inches high, despite being dead on last thursday when I shot it.Oh well,I'll be back out there one afternoon this coming week.

Arrived at Camp Sunday in the ANF around noon. Still had a wee bit of snow on the roof and two limbs in the front yard. Other than that, you couldnt tell a thing by Sunday.

Monday morning we woke to 24 degrees! Good thing that temp didnt come when all that wet stuff was in the air!

We're on a mountain (2449 feet) in 3B. We had about 4-5" of snow when I got there on Friday. Then it snowed all weekend. Probably about 8" when it was done. You couldn't see squat in the woods. All the trees (especially beech) were bent down and visibility was about 10 feet. Except in the mature timber where no deer live anyway.
