"I have two friends that own pro shops. They've each sold one crossbow thsi year."

Go sit in front of Gander Mountain and take a head count of crossbow purchaser this week. Last several times Ive been there in the last several months being there only a short time and often during the week, not even weekend, and Ive seen guys in process of buying or walking across the parking lot carrying a crossbow on every trip. At least one and on one trip two different sales.

Not pointing out to predict doomsday. Just sayin', they ARE selling and selling WELL from my observations.

With a good spike in archery stamp sales..at $20 a pop...I'd say they figured out how to get their license increase. Next year I heard they are considering a $20 baiting permit, $50 jacklighting pass, and a instituting the "earn a buck" program requiring everyone who hunts to havest a doe and have it certified at a participating processor before you can kill a buck.

That shop must suck. My buddy's shop has sold over 150 crossbows this year. Of course they have also sold a ton of compounds and trad bows....but you can't tell me guys aren't buying the xbows. I personally know of over a half dozen of my co-workers that bought them. And for the record not one of them is over 50 years old or has any limiting handicap that would have prevented them from bowhunting at any point prior to this year. When asked the answer is always the "easy" factor.

Crossbows really won't impact the resource at all. What it will do is make it easier for people to participate.Making everything easier puts a sour taste in my mounth but this is clearly a social issue because some people(me included)disagree with making everything easier. This isn't a way to get more deer killed or to make more money. The bottom line is,no solid arguments from the anti-crossbow side were able to overcome the fact that so many able-bodoed hunters wanted an easier way to hunt.

You have to remeber, over the past decade,we've lost probably more archery hunters than crossbows will bring in to the woods. The resource will not be greatly effected. In all honesty,I ain't too concerned about the small number of guys who I know bought crossbows. These guys can't kill deer with rifles.I don't imagine they'll raise much hell with a crossbow.

Man DOUG you missed it on this one.Ohio has less hunters then us and their crossbow kills bypassed the verticle harvests. It took a few years but it happened so I'd say yes most likely it will affect the numbers. And the archery buck kills have increased with hunting the rut so with crossbows added who knows how high the buck harvests will increase. How many buckwill the pgc allow in early season? What will the rifle hunters say if those numbers show a drastic increase?Crossbows are a whole new ballgame. The weapon is alot more efficiant then any verticle.
