RE: Pa. Nogamelands being Stocked With Deer
Buck you right ,they sure would have to put a limit on the bucks, better yet close down a section that were stocked.Do a small amount at a time.Yhat is the PGC goal ? right to bring the buck to doe ratio in line.So save the bucks and build them up and maybe we would not have to kill all the does to a point where huntin is like sittin looking at a Television that aint even turned on.But then you have the heated food source problem.Cant expect the deer to eat twigs and survive.Ah I care ,but getting feed up with the PGC's half hearted attempt to please the timber companies, the insurance companies and all the closet politicians that have there hands in the pie.Maybe Im all wrong wanting to see deer when I deer hunt.Maybe I'm missing having a great time watching bugs, birds, and tree rats all day.I can see them in my back yard, plus more deer then the gamelands infact. Speaking of that ,I have been having a nice heard of between 15 and 20 visit my winter feeders everyday.Im going to have to get some pics. That reminds me I need to take 20 Lbs of soybeans out for the deer,Adios.

RE: Pa. Nogamelands being Stocked With Deer
Cardeer, I guess I did misunderstand you. If your saying they should cancel the timber company's rights, and lease it out to farmers, I'd be all for it. They have a program out west like that, but I forget the name?? They also have the CPR program, which I'm sure could be utilized here. I just don't feel stocking will make any difference. There's plenty of good genetics right now, we just need to give them plenty to eat, and let them live long enough. Improving the habitat has been the answer to just about any similar problem.
BTW, I buy 3-4 nonresident liscenses each year, so I do know what's out there. They didn't get that way by stocking, though, just good habitat and sound management. I'm sure you've been on some great private ranches, but to categorize the whole state as giving up B&C bucks left and right just ain't true. Pennsylvania, well I sure don't look at as some kind of model program. I think NJ has a way better management program. Smaller zones, good harvest numbers. Same with MD and DE. They've been shooting does in the gun seasons for years, and they give up alot bigger bucks than PA. It just seems to me that PA is getting a late start, but seems to be on the right track?? Just keep shootting the does, letting the bucks grow up, and most importantly, improve the habitat. Why spend $100 dollars to buy deer whn we could spend it to buy land, and then lease it out to farmers? We can grow our own deer. |
RE: Pa. Nogamelands being Stocked With Deer
I think Cardeers idea is a good one. If we do move the Timber Companies out and start farming/planting HUGE food plots the deer herd will inevitably get better. If we imported 20,000 HUGE Canadian bucks and put them in that area, shut down hunting bucks there for a year or two, the big bucks would have plenty of food, they would be able to breed the does, it would help the deer herd out. I have seen Cardeer's antlers and I am telling you, THIS GUY KNOWS BIG BUCKS. I am pretty sure that he has hunted more big buck areas than a lot of people. The game commission talks about a lack of food for deer on Public Land, this isn't because there are too many deer, it is because they don't have enough farming/food plots.
Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^) |
RE: Pa. Nogamelands being Stocked With Deer
Then we can fly to the moon and bring it back to earth for our own hunting preserve. And they lived happily ever after. D-end.
