RE: PA DEER AUDIT UPDATE.....
"Not really. The audit doesnt have to go out in the field and count deer or count embryos again. They just have to evaluate PA's practices against known, accepted and reliable scientific practices. Peer review is the term often usedto describethe practice."
I agree little fieldwork will be done. They dont have to, to makeit a long and tedious process. There are tons and tons of data from several years to sort through in regards to several processes as well as addressingthe processes of obtaining and using that data in depth. As well as comparing the same to other states. As well as addressing hunter satisfaction issues and human conflict. Weighing the pros and cons of our current goalsetc. I believe they should be asked for acceptable alternatives that are more hunter friendly, that would require some in depth fact gathering as well... H-U-G-E study if all is thoroughly addressed as it should be. 2 problems I see. One is the#1 problem of all imho. And they most likely will not evaluate it as a "problem". It isour "goals" and how "weight" is distributed to each. Thats a judgement call, and no science involved when you say "we are gonna manage with more weight given biodiversity and minimal to "hunter satisfaction" and recreational deer uses. Whats appropriate in that area or inappropriate? Judgement call on part of Pgc. Poor judgement imho. How can an audit address that when it doesnt entail science, but is 100% based on individuals values? Another problem with our current system, which will not be addressed is very basic and by many seen as the root of many of our problems, the commissioner selection process... But thats another topic... |
RE: PA DEER AUDIT UPDATE.....
Not really. The audit doesnt have to go out in the field and count deer or count embryos again. They just have to evaluate PA's practices against known, accepted and reliable scientific practices. Peer review is the term often used to describe the practice. The PGCs's methods for estimating harvests and population estimates have already been peer reviewed so the audit will just duplicate those reports. The PGC has provided the studies they use to justify using embryos/adult doe for determining herd health along with reference for using forest health. Therefore, the audit only needs to look at whether the PGC applied those results in an appropriate manner and that is strictly a subjective decision. |

One example of just how you twist facts, The fact that water is a colorless, tasteless, liquid, is a true statement, except when the temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. |

RE: PA DEER AUDIT UPDATE.....
You are too late. All those issues except the white sauce have been raised and the thread is still about the audit. I hope when they finally agree on a contract that they release the actual document so we will know what the audit is actually going to cover, because right now we are all just guessing.

More interesting snippets about this "unbiased" audit... Alt and Shissler work for the same agency they put together as consultants... Alt was instrumental in the formation of our deer plan.... Wmi doing the audit...

RE: PA DEER AUDIT UPDATE.....
Then we have this quote.
Rep. Godshall recalled how the general consensus of the study was to use an out of state contractor to ascertain an accurate count of the number of deer in PA. Rowe agreed with this statement. Rep. Godshall then expressed concern over the fact that the accuracy of WMI's work would depend upon the data the Game Commission provides them. He worried about prior statements from the Executive Director of the Game Commission where he said the Director admitted to not knowing if the state had ten healthy deer or 100 healthy deer. Rep. Godshall also worried about verbiage from WMI about their conclusions being contingent upon the data they receive from the Commission. He stressed that to accurately conduct this study field work would have to be done. Rowe said he is not going to argue with the Representative's concern but stressed that field work would be a part of the study. He added that "if possible" verbiage was simply related to WMI not knowing at this point in time about the quality of the data they would receive. Rowe stressed that if it is found that the data quality is poor then WMI will make recommendations on how the Game Commission can change its data collection system. |
RE: PA DEER AUDIT UPDATE.....
The more I learn, the less I care what the hell they do!!! LOL.:D Did you read my above post??
PGC has more friggin ugly connections to this "wmi" than the mafia does!! This &*%$#@ Shissler also has worked very instrumentally in the forming of our deer plan and the pr for it prior to that with wmi!!! OUr newest commissioner worked with wmi!!!!
