I' m finally gettting my chance this Friday to hunt my area of NJ. There has not been a lot of pressure on our farm but the season did open on April 14th this year (1 week early). With this warmer weather, I was not sure if the gobblers were still out there looking for love. Thanks.

I went out this morning before work for a couple of hours and at first light there was lots of gobbling, but after about 10 minutes it was over. It has been like this for two weeks now. I haven' t successfully called any birds yet though this season.

As of Sunday there were still gobblers gobbling in my section of Eastern PA. Two acquaintances tagged some nice birds on both opening day and Monday...so they are definitely still out there and receptive.

Well--I left my house at 3.50am; in the woods w/my set up at 5.25am; had a calling session to a roosted gobbler about 75 yds away and then proceeded to have him beeline to my jake/hen decoys. I took him at about 35 yds-- my watch read 5.50am.
He was 21 lbs with a 9 1/2 in beard. I also heard 3 other gobblers but they all shut down by 6.15am.
I also found my first shed (3pt) on our club property. In addition, I found 2 dead deer (yearlings) from coyotes. On another note, they are building some homes right across from our farm' s entrance--what a bummer!
Any way, have a nice weekend.

This has been the strangest spring season in the last 12 years!! First off, I never seen any hens!!! Secondly the amount of gobbling birds that I have heard in the last week was ZERO!! Or best, they would give out one gobble off the roost then go totally quiet!!! Worst spring season I ever hunted!! I was lucky and took a dandy opening day, but that was it!! Never seen another gobbler up close since!! Looks like it' s going to another one bird season!!
