RE: Its a great day in PA

Had a good weekend at camp. A BIG bobcat ran across the road in front of the car on the way up Friday night. He was really motoring! Also saw one deer Friday night, the only deer we saw all weekend. A large Pileated Wookpecker kept us company while we ate lunch at Ole Bull State Park on Saturday. There was also a dazed racoon on the road near the park.

Early this morning a couple of gobblers were sounding off on the ridge behind the cabin. And a Raven was picking garbage at the dump when dropped our trash off in Hammersley Fork. I caught some rainbows on nymphs in the catch and release area of Young Woman's Creek before the rain chased us. It troubles me that I didn'tpick up anywild brooksor browns. Funny that the only turkeys that we actually saw was Sunday evening about 1/2 mile from home in Berks County. They're free-ranging birds - they range from one development to the next one.

outsider, Did you experience those results just this trip,or has this been going on for awhile? As I stated earlier in this topic, haven't been up that way for a long time. Had some great trips in the past. Just curious to what is happening on those streams. Keep thinking about going up that way to fish again someday.[/align]

This was only the second time in recent years that I've been able to fly fish my old haunts, and both times I was dissapointed in the numbers of wild fish that I saw and caught. And the catch and release area on the Kettle Crfeek was much too crowded for me.There was no insect activity on Young Woman's Creek today.I'll be back in April when there should be a lot of hatch activity, then I'll be able to judge what's happening better. I planto make to 2 trips camp in April.

You couldn't beat Friday or Saturday for being out side in PA.I walked in the woods for four hours Friday andI shoveled two tons of lime onto my garden Saturday.
Both days activities made the cold beer taste better.:)

i stocked 75 trout at each stop in catch/release in youngwomans creek.last week on monday.

ALL were rainbows.most were in the 10 inch size area.

i went out 2 times to fish, using nimphs/streamers and got NO BITES.

i cant see 1 fish where i stocked.

locals say someone is fishing them out at night.

i did see CORN along creek at the DAM near scrimmys camp.

i dont believe they are being fished out at night but its strange i cant see them in holes UNLESS they are up in riffles but i cant see any fish laying there.

if someone is fishing them out ,i would see CORN/DEAD MINNOWS along creek.unless they are doing it during day which i dont see that.i am not seeing that.

you can go down in main creek where you CANT fish until 18th.

you cant see 1 fish in creek even tho i put 150 in 1 spot, under the GLEASONTON BRIDGE IN NORTHBEND.

one thing i can say, THEY ARE NOT BITING.........;)

No debate! Any and all activities that lead to a cold one would be declared a tie for first place!

Sproul, this has been a problem on some streams for years, esp with rainbows. The pfbc is doing studies to find where they go, they definitely move downstream. We stock large 'bows on Standing stone creek in Huntingdon county and less than a week later they are catching themin a big hole justup from thethe mouth, almost twenty miles below. Only real solution is stock more browns or wait till closer to season. Both solutions have their inherent problems. Browns grow slower on average, but flourish in warmer temps and slower flows, waiting till closer to seaosn puts a lot of pressure on the hatcheries and the workers. I still maintain that the brightest future for trout stockings lie in expanding more coop trout nurseries with the sportsmens clubs. Best quality fish around by far and takes a burden off the PFBC.

After extensive field research spanning well over 25 years and often stretchin' into the wee hours each morning, I finally determined that beer is not good for you, regardless of how great it tastes on a hot day. Thousands of gallons later, I gave it up in the fall of 1991 and don't miss it a bit.

:(

I will, however, take a dab of bourbon on a cold winter's night, if need be. :)
