RE: Is the P.G.C. in suicide mode?
Having less deer doesn't bother me one bit.We needed alot less around here but the hunting is still excellent,if you're willing to put in a little effort. That subject has been beaten to death and I don't really care to argue about it any more.Deer numbers have nothing to do with why I'm glad Alt left. The guy was a either a flat out liar or a lousy deer biologist.Even though I agree with the basic fundamentals of the deer plan, the guy made claims that could never come true. That has alotto do with theamount of distrust people have for the PGC.The guy wasn't a deer biologists. He was a salesman.
The legistaors were apparently more deeply involved with the crossbow issue than you realize.Several have been courted by various crossbow manufacturers for years. It was a matter of time before they stepped in.Regardless,it sucks that we're now stuck with them. |
RE: Is the P.G.C. in suicide mode?
You know, the more I read about this "Commission" we have, the more it sours my stomach. It's becoming increasingly clear that they do not care at all about the opinions or concerns of the ones that put food on their table...the hunters themselves. If I didn't love to hunt as much as I do, and I'm sure most of you feel the same way, I wouldn't buy a license anymore. Let them lie in the bed they made for themselves.
In reality, the relationship between the PGC and hunters is no different than the relationship between us and politicians. THEY WORK FOR US. The NWTF fiasco is alarming. No doubt the NWTF is a great organization, but why give them the govenors tag instead of the RMEF? That's ridiculous. Perhaps the NWTF had more money offer the PGC? It seems to always come back to the dollar doesn't it? What's next? Maybe they'll allow hunters to shoot deer and sell the meat, taking a percentage of what they make. |

"Having less deer doesn't bother me one bit.We needed alot less around here but the hunting is still excellent,if you're willing to put in a little effort. That subject has been beaten to death and I don't really care to argue about it any more."
Good. Because I know your position and you know mine. Deer hunting is far from excellent when you have both lesser numbers, and still poor quality. And most areas of the state got more reduction than ever warranted, and it was a blanket deer slaughter plan to cater to econuts and timberand nothing more as it was done. "Deer numbers have nothing to do with why I'm glad Alt left. The guy was a either a flat out liar or a lousy deer biologist." Thats just it. He WASNT intended to be a deer biologist. Just a charismatic mouthpiece to sell the deal. "Even though I agree with the basic fundamentals of the deer plan, the guy made claims that could never come true. That has alotto do with theamount of distrust people have for the PGC.The guy wasn't a deer biologists. He was a salesman." I agree to a point, but also see why pgc thought it necessary. There was much controversy surrounding the "new" program, and it wouldve had even LESS support at the time, had therenot been rediculous claims made such as they were. And as we've come to find out, pgc couldnt care less about how the hunters feel about much of anything. But it was VERY convenient for them to "shmooze" at least enough of us at the time in order to get their ball rolling. "The legistaors were apparently more deeply involved with the crossbow issue than you realize.Several have been courted by various crossbow manufacturers for years. It was a matter of time before they stepped in.Regardless,it sucks that we're now stuck with them." I understand that completely Doug, And as I saidthere were also those AGAINST the inclusion. Therewas absolutely no reason for pgc to have had to give in to anyone on the issue, when the deer plan was FAR more controversial, effected FAR more hunters, and had STRONG resitance from legislators, yet they've continued on for some time now... They added crossguns for 2 reasons. MORE MONEY. in the way of tag sales (and who knows what "percs"acouple of the commissioners may have received, exactly as occured witha few legislators), andyet one more way to nickel and dime the deer herd to death aside from the too many tags, making them continally more efficient with all the "added opportunities" in the last several years. And who knows....As some suggested, maybe even yet one more way to purposelypizz off hunters. I might not have thought that, if it hadnt been for all the blind support UBP gave pgc with the deerless plan. Then to have pgc turn around and stab them in the back, I was VERY surprised when I saw that to say the least. |

RE: Is the P.G.C. in suicide mode?
I believe Denny means well. I really do. But his post #15 just goes 100 percent against his "follow the science" mantrain regardsto the items that I listed. In other words, let's all "follow the science" when it comes to this half assed deer plan, and to hell with hunter satisfaction. But when it comes to grouse, turkeys and elk, let's throw science by the wayside and go for hunter satisfaction.
Forget the puke emoticon and please hand me my valium. I'm following the science and science says I better calm down. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
RE: Is the P.G.C. in suicide mode?
Help me understand something. Was the opposition to x-bows primarily from the general hunting population in PA or from special interest groups like UBP? I keep hearing the "majority" didn't want inclusion. The majority of who? Were there polls, etc? How was this estimated/calculated?

RE: Is the P.G.C. in suicide mode?
The BOC also went against the biologists when they implemented ARs in the SRA counties, which was about as dumb as it gets.

RE: Is the P.G.C. in suicide mode?
The majority of who? |
RE: Is the P.G.C. in suicide mode?
ManySpurs, thanks but that didn't answer my question. Of those who corresponded, who was represented? Any group such as the UBP can flood the BOC with their views while the majority remains silent. I don't have anything against the UBP, but I am trying to understand who was opposed to inclusion.
