Mandatory bowhunter ed would solve those issues no matter what weapon propels that arrow.
YEARLY bow ed would help

The potential problem I see is the increased harvests resulting in shortened archery seasons due to outcry from exclusive gun hunters. The same hunters that will be flooding the archery woods with their new crossbow. The GC will simply take back the hunting of deer during the rut. In SRA's the harvest increased by something like 40% when crossbows were allowed. This is not archers switching tools, this is a whole new class of hunters entering the season and a factor that cannot be diminished or ignored for long.
GO TO FRONT OF CLASS.

many dont like my comments on the crossbow forums.

my comment is why the crossbow is not liked in the early archery.

it is because woods will be full with hunters that normally would not be out in archery, this does not sit well with hunters that had place somewhat to themselves in archery.

i too share this concern ,its not crossbow, its all new hunters that will be out and a lot that think they can shoot 50 yds with crossbow BECAUSE IT HAS SCOPE AND IS 175 PDS.vrs a compound bow at 55 pds.

i agree on the ed classes .

to many think these crossbows are gun, just hold over back of deer at 50 yds or MORE AND SHOOT, IF YOU MISS WITH FIRST, WHAT THE HECK, THROW ANOTHER ONE AT DEER.[:@]

crossbows will leave fewer deer for gun hunters, its happening now, look at how many are getting their deer in early archery season that never did, they waited until gun season.

even ole sproule is going to spend more time next year in early archery,i see writing on wall that gun season is going to be a STINKER in future.

with more hunters coming in archery, archery could get to be a STINKER TOO.

too much STINK in woods is not a good thing in ARCHERY season.

The fair solution would be reducing the length of firearm buck hunting to compensate.
See ya.. I'm getting my gear on and heading out with the flintlock now.

Sproul hope the old girl enjoyed her walk. I hunt on my ground w/ a Xbow, not public not a neighbors. No one should be on my ground but me so it will not be crowded. I think gun season already is a stinker and other than the 1st day next year, I will probably take my vacay during inline and flint season. I used to hunt the whole first week of gun. This is an old argument and i dislike people saying the Xbow hunters will just fling bolts, as if the majority of bow hunters don't dust it off a week before season??? Not a good reason to stop the Xbow at all. I also am at an age where i won't take a class, I won't go . Send in the newbies but I have been hunting for 43 years and am not going. You don't make people take a test for a bow! I quit hunting bow because of people taking bad shots bow, finding gangrene deer from being hit in the leg. I chased I don't know how nany deer for folks who I thought new how to shoot. No, I beleive you get as many wounded deer in bow and the rate will go up exponetially with the amount of hunters oin the woods. Guys will be trading their bows in on Xbows as well. I hint now Xbow because I am sure of the shot I am comfortable w/ that stock and scope.

i say combine all season into one for 30 days. no seperate rifle archery smokepole. use what you choose. do this in october and that way you know the does you see after season are most likely bred.
That is one of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever heard.[:'(]

All I'm saying is that there will be consequences for full inclusion, and who the pissed off folks will be is the only question. I wish it was so simple and without consequence because as I age, a crossbow would help me as much as anybody else.

First, Pa's bow season among one of the shortest of all the states.

Second, Bowhunter numbers represent about a third of all hunters. The season is longer simply because bowhunting is a much more challenging method of harvesting deer. Bowkills are not anywhere near that percentage. Until the percentage of bowkills becomes commensurate with their percentage of total hunters, it would be more appropriate to say that the bow season is unfairly short.

Third, a 30 day gun season is simply not remotely feasible with 900,000 hunters.

we are not other states. remember that from other posts on this forum? about how many deer we can hold compared to other states? but i guess some people like to use other states when it helps their agenda.

more challenging? how many hunters are competing for a deer on the first day of rifle season? that is a challenge for the last 3 years.

rifle hunters have only 2 maybe 3 days to hunt because of work.

from what the pgc said, most deer are harvested on the first 2 days and there after does not have a real impact on deer. so from what the pgc says, it doesn't matter the length of time after the first 2 days. it wouldn't be a real factor.
