Congrats on the buck Bob! At least give us the stats. Spread, tines etc. Guessing it was a good one.

Glad your boy is fine. Hope the insurance rates don't climb too high.

Actually Ryan, it was just a basket rack. Longest tine is maybe 6 inches. he might scorein the 80's with a generous tape. The smallest buck I've taken in a long time. When we started out that last drive, The old heart was acting up I was not feeling real well and the wind was beginning to really pick up and I got pretty chilled. I was a little wet from snow falling on me when I did my buddy's drive. Sitting and freezing in the stand, I got to thinking about whether I really still wanted to hold out for tag soup for the season.

When this buck came runningup to me I hada few seconds to think aboutwhether or not to let him go and how many morechances I might get and I just decided to go ahead and shoot. It was a 4 yard shot. I passed several bucks bigger than this guy this season from that very spot but something in me just said "aw, go ahead and take im".

The shot was perfect, of course that's easy to do at 4 yards. He went about 30 yards and started the drunk walk and that was it.

Today looks like it would be another perfect day to be out there but I think I overdid it the last few days so it's probably best I just stay in and butcher this guy. A couple days off and I'll be OK.

i did have bad wreck with my motorcycle, i raced for suzuki state wide on motocross at 18.

i was doing 70 mph and groundhog went into my spokes, i went over handle bars and landed on railroad tracks.

Nothing woring with dropping the hammer after a long hard season Bob, hope you feel better.

I drilled a doe this morning. It was a beautiful time to be in the woods, despite the cold, I was dressed appropriately & very comfy. I had 2 red fox running around & barking at each other much of the morning, likely getting ready to pair up for mating season. It was real cool to watch.

Then later on, your could hear the gun shots building as people started putting on drives. After a barrage of shotshere came 4 doe running right at me.They were in quick, I drew, maa'd a couple times, & they all stopped, I picked the biggest that was in the clearand zipped one thru her lungs at 12 yds. It was all reaction. She fell a mere 20 yds away. Sometimes it just works out easy.

Aint it funny how the harder you work at something the luckier you get?

Congrats on the doe.

I wasfeeling a little better by mid afternoon so I hooked up with my buddy and drove a spotfor him in 2D near the house that is a proven producer. The tracks were everywhere but it soon became evident that someone beat us to that drive. As he was taking me back to my truck, we saw a nice buck was standing on the horizon at dusk with a house as it's backdrop. (his dads house)That buck had to have come out of the woods we just drove
On the two mile drive home, we saw9 more deer out in the fields.

I was in the woods by 10 am at a funnel between two cattail swamps. A different place than I usually hunt but not far away either. Around 11 am it became evident that drives were beginning from the sound of complete magazine deployments. I had a fawn come smashing through the swamp and blast headfirst through some underbrush and stopped about 20 feet from me. I said "go ahead" to it and it ran past me and headed for some houses. I thought for sure I would see a buck today, because all the hunters doing drives were hunting antlerless with shotguns. I hunted till dark and saw nothing else. I would have thought there was 500 deer in that hollow from all the shooting that went on. I surmise that the deer were reluctant to cross that valley today and tried to stay on either ridgeline despite all the hunters up there. Oh well....next week try something else.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW BAD ROADS AND WOODS IS RIGHT NOW IN wmu2g

i was very lucky to get off the roads, i didnot take my chains.

the ground is 6 inchs of hard snow, you cant dig thru it.

the roads are 2 inchs of solid ice with no snow on.

i had my dog as we were grouse hunting.

its been a LONG time that i have seen conditions this bad in potter/cameron/clinton county, then throw in high winds EVERYDAY but today, today is first day of no wind in about 1 month.
