As 2G is the WMU where hunters are most concerned about the deer population, not to mention the fact that they are so vocal about exactly what they plan on doing (or not doing) with their doe tags...it is easy to see why 2G was so quick to sell out. Nothing like a $6 deer protection permit. Final harvest figuresmay tell the real sory with what happened...but if the PGC assumes too low a harvest number is due to lack of reporting, and not actual kill, they may just fudge the number anway.:(

You don't think the PGC is over selling doe tags in most WMU units knowing that most hunters won't use them?
In most WMUs they are over selling doe tags hoping the hunters will use enough to control the herd . In 2G they reduced the tags in an attempt to keep the herd stable. The question remains as to whether enough hunters filled enough tags to keep the herd stable. We won't know the answer to that question for a year or two.

Both 2B and 5D still have doe tags!!!

I really get a kick out of the foolish notion of buying up doe tags to "protect" the deer. Over time, these guys are doing exactly the opposite. A doe tag sold but unfilled contributes to a low harvest rate per tag issued. Consequently, the PGC issues more tags in areas with low success rates.Buying a doe tag to burn it is a "feel good"practice but it's really precious little more than mental masturbation.

It does, however, give the PGC another 6 buck$ so the dubious practice does do some good!

2B has tags because guys will wait till the late season to buy one if they need or want one. The suburbanites apply for tags where they go for deer camp first, then if they want more or are unsuccessful they run out and get a tag at home. I can't speak for 5D but I know for a fact that 2b has sold this way for as long as I can remember..

2b has an incredible amount of tags allocated each year and come close to selling them all by the final bell.
