It is patently stupid to use the harvesting of buttons as a tool to reduce the herd. They would have dispersed from your area anyway, not to mention the obvious male gender part of ineffective HR results.
Spite will eat at you from the inside.
Here is a news flash, BB eat as much as female fawns Update to the news flash, herd reduction is based on reducing the number of over wintering deer If you save enough buck so the harvest doesn't exceed recruitment ,the herd is not reduced.
Why don't you shoot does to reduce the herd.
Your usually killing more than one deer if you take a doe after the rut.

Those that want to protect BB are only interested in the short term increase the number of buck. They don't care about the health of the herd, the future of deer hunting or anything other than getting their buck.

Actually Matt, Dr Krolls studies do indicate that the true genetic potential of a buck cant be determined till 4.5.

That being said, Bluebird has taken the results of Dr Krolls work and twisted it 180 degrees.

The study's findings were that a spike or otherwise small rack on a 1.5 deer was typically related to the time of his birth and subsequent develpoment each season till he reached 4.5.

The conclusions of that study were that a deer with small spikes as his first rack was likely born later in the spring than his 8 point cousin. That late start is likely to keep that buck behind until approximately 4.5 when he eventually catches up. Not too much unlike the kid in seventh grade who is a foot shorter than his buddies but by the time he graduates he might indeed be the biggest kid inhis peergroup.

The conclusions were that 1.5 spikes were no more likely to be genetically inferior. Bluebirds conclusions were his spin on the real science.

That is pure unadulterated nonsense. Kroll made no determination for the cause of the slow rate of development of 1.5 spikes. It is simply ridiculous to assume it would take 3 years for a buck that is born a month or two late would take 4 years to make up the difference. Kroll had no way of knowing when the 1.5 spikes were born , so he had no basis for making any claims about the slower rate of development of 1.5 spikes.

Well if you shoot that doe there is still a chance that you will get more than one deer out of it, therefore it may be a buck you are shooting also.

You know even less than I thought you did.
A late born fawn is generally born to a doe that was a fawn herself when impregnated. This not only puts the buck at a later time of birth, but also a lesser birth weight and nutritional condition.

Still killing the other deer(or more)therefore getting rid of more than one

Congratulations, you finally got something right. Now all you have to explain why it takes 4 years for those buck to over come the effects of being late born. Kroll couldn't do it, you can't do it and no one else can do it.

I suggest you go back and read it again. Better yet read it again a couple of times. Maybe, just maybe then you'll begin to understand.... on second thought, never mind:eek:
