rut here in wmu2g started last week BUT i saw very few rubs and only 1 buck on thursday.

i think here anyhow that the deer are concentrated in certain areas do to food.

areas you saw buck last year, they are not..

its FOOD and lack of deer make hunting very hard.

i know hunters that hunted all of early oct in-line season and only saw 3 doe in clinton county.

road hunters i talked to said they went days and never saw deer, others said they saw 7 deer for 40 miles of road hunting.

weather has been nasty too,but i feel rut is in now but doe are very few and i believe that bucks are traveling long ways to find a doe in heat.

throw in lack of food this year and no water, yes, very hard year archery hunting .

here in westernclinton county,pa.i bet i saw more bear poo than deer poo this year.

in fact, i only saw 3 piles of deer poo for 3 weeks of archery hunting.

i saw 5 doie and 1 buck for 3 weeks of hard archery hunting about 4 days a week at it.

WORST YEAR IN 47 YEARS HUNTING IN WESTERN CLINTON COUNTY,PA[:@].

I had an awesome archery season.Killed three doe and a a nice 7 point. Two days after I killed the 7point,I had a slammer of an 8 point 24 yards from me.He stood around for 12 minutes and never knew I was there.I put a couple of my buddies on that bench and the buck was never seen again.Friday afternoon however,a buddy of mine came up from Johnstown and killed a 19 3/4 inch 8 point on that same bench. This year was pretty typical for me.I had deer sighting a little more than 50% of the time.I didn't see a ton of deer from my standsbut they're tough to pattern in this part of the state.

Last week I was at one of the largest taxidermy studios in this part of the state. They were 10 bucks ahead of last year as of last monday and already had about 100 bucks in.Many were huge.

What won't I see during gun season? If you're referring to the taxidermist,I'll take that bet.Lastyear they mounted 380+ bucks, despite the horrible weather last opening day.I'm willing to bet they beat that number this year. The year before, they mounted well over 400 bucks, many in excess of 20 inches.

I shot a life's biggest deer on October 4 public land 4C so i don't have any personal experience after that day. I do think the rut was a few days later because of the heat. Mating was going on at night and at the edges of the day. In my yard today 11-17-2008 I had a 10 pointer and a small buck chasing 6 does around. I live in suburbia with 500 houses and these deer live in our yards and garden.

Saturday 11-15 was the same. Hard chasing and rutting going on.

Brother didn't get a shot, but saw a bunch of does on private land and had a big shooter chasing on 11-7-2008.

I think rifle season will be great this year.

On public land in 4C I saw more preseason sign than I have in the past 7 years.

I think in 4C the heard #'s are up a little versus the past couple years.

3 Doe ! Oh my God That is 6 deer in reality. No wonder we dont see 50 to 70 deer a day nomoe. Ban Doe huntin for 3 years then Only allow 1 deer per person per season till the herd comes back. And bet you dont put a plum nickel back in to the deer herd other then the cheap huntin license you bought. If you hunt on someone elses property how much have you given them in thankyou gifts, cash or etc.??? How much did you put back into the food habitate for the deer ??? Take, Take , ME ME ME management will come back to bite all of us in the future

Oh cardeer, how little you know about me.I donate in excess of 1500 a year to two different organizations that do alot of habitat workon the public property in this area.I also donate alot of my time as well.We can get into the whole selfish hunter thing but you'd lose.I'm very much the opposite of selfish.

You reallyexpect to see 75 deer a day? That mindset is exactly why people are seeing so few deer today.I kill multiple deer each and every year and I'll continue to do so.The habitat in this part of the state is poor. The first step in fixing it isreducing the deer herd.It makes no sense to add more deer tohabitat that's stressed and overbrowsed.
