RE: Mountain lions in PA!
ORIGINAL: sproulman there was a cougar shot in chicago, ill. they had blood from femalecougar , i believe in south dakota. they took blood from cougar killed in chicago and it MATCHED. SO, THEY FIGURE THAT THIS cougar COVERED over 930 miles in 9 months to chicago. this may answer why we see cougar in so many places here in pa ,they may be passing thru. i think if COUGAR stayed in area, we would have more pictures and sighting in certain area. i believe now, they are on move always from state to state. |
RE: Mountain lions in PA!
i agree, people are to quick to shoot a COUGAR.
just think if i would have shot the COUGAR i saw in pottersdale,pa. we would have had a CONFIRMED cougar, no doubt about that. but i would never do that unless he tackled ole sproul, which i doubt most cougars are only interested in getting away. |
RE: Mountain lions in PA!
If people in Pennsylvania shot the mountain lions they saw we would be arresting them for killing a bobcat in closed season or without a permit. We would likely have to close the present day bobcat season to compensate for all of the misidentification of bobcats by people that thought they were shooting a lion. R.S. Bodenhorn |
RE: Mountain lions in PA!
Many years ago I killed a very large feral cat with thick fur,up near camp. When I spotted him in thehayfield (emerging spring grass), first thought it was a fox until I got him in the 10x50s for an ID.
That feral tomcathad shown upat my uncle's farm and had killed two of his farm cat toms pretty much on the day it appeared. That thing wasreddish-yellow, almost orange in color, had a tail nearlyas long as its body and could've easily weighed 40+lbs, had it been domesticated and fed regularly. Had it been out in the open at 200 yards instead of partially concealed in the grass, would've resembled a mini cougar from that distance. |

Bodenhorn anyone that thinks a LITTLE bobcat is COUGAR ,i guess if you never saw BOBCAT before, that could happen. WHEN SEASONED HUNTERS LIKE I KNOW AND OLE SPROUL IN WOODS 3 TIMES A WEEK FOR LONGTIME,TELLS YOU THEY SAW COUGAR,LIKE E.F.HUTTON ,YOU BETTER LISTEN.. at 15 ft away waving his orangish tail at me and SCREACHED at me,oh, i forgot, its called TAWNY,it was COUGAR.;) |

RE: Mountain lions in PA!
We have a new lead in the case guys....A mountain lion was seen 4.8 miles from the last sighting. (I did that on google earth so I know it's right. That was my guess anyways..) I think it might have been the same one. It could travel that far easyly.

RE: Mountain lions in PA!
Just heard on the radio of a reported sighting in MA as yet unconfirmed. Sounds like the cats are moving out of PA due to all the ridicule and relocating to MA dueour acceptance of all things strange..Maybe they are GAY mountain lions looking to marry here..

RE: Mountain lions in PA!
We have the same issue in Ontario, Canada just across the border, but methinks our mountain lions come from Pennsylvania. We have eyewitnesses stepping forward with sighting claims, but like with OJ and PA eyewitnessesthere is no proof. Below is a quote from our previous Prime Minister of Canada concerning proof. Note: AllCanadiansdo not say dumb things. We just came back from a great deer hunt in Northwestern Ontario....we had hunting buddies in cottages on either side of us from Minnesota & Tennessee....we had a great time....us hunters are allgood ol' boys no matter where we come from.
A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven." – quote by Jean Chretien |

I'm sure the mountain lions seen need where I live in PA are there...I've seen the tracks.

|
RE: Mountain lions in PA!

RE: Mountain lions in PA!
I think the tracks that I saw while hunting close to the place of the first mountain lion sighting where that of a mountain lion...not sure though but from what I found on then internet they sure looked like it.

RE: Mountain lions in PA!
I guess I can't understand what the big mystery is about the locations cougars inhabit and why there is such a strong need to deny it. Don't see a body, kill, scat, tracks? Guess what, when there are only a handful of them you won't see much. We had coyotes in MI when I grew up there and I've still never seen one in that state. Occasional tracks, but that's it. Only one hunter I know if ever saw one either. But when a local guy with dogs takes them out to hunt coyotes for the weekend he comes up with several.
MI DNR denied cougars in the state too. Finally someone got sick of being told they were seeing things and paid out of pocket to have some scat analyzed and it came back cougar. So the DNR goes from denying they exist to passing a protection order (while still officially denying they exist). In 2005 I was living in the outer suburbs of Detroit and I go out one morning and there one is lying in my backyard. No I did not get a pic or video, I was too busy getting my shotgun in case it went after my dog. The DNR came out, told me I was seeing things, until I informed them I was a trained biologist. Then they asked me not to tell anybody... I asked why, and they wouldn't give me a good reason. |
RE: Mountain lions in PA!
Yeah...The PA game commission used to deny them to but now they're starting to admin that they're here.

RE: Mountain lions in PA!
The PGC never denied the existence of coyotes. They have pictures of them in game news articles dating back to the 1940's.

RE: Mountain lions in PA!
There are real cougar pictures in Pa! Just stop by Cougar Bobs Tavern in Kelletville PA and they'll show em to you! (of course the cougar was kind of docile when Bob made a leash out of an extension cord and "captured" it.)
Just one example of a cougar sighting that turned out to be an escaped captive cat. I'm sure that we have a few of those.... after all, it's well known that Sasquatch families like to keep cougars as pets! |
RE: Mountain lions in PA!
I know someone thats seen a mountain lion in central PA.

Or you you someone who believes he has seen one.

RE: Mountain lions in PA!
I think it would be hard to mistake a mountion lion sighting...they are WAY bigger than bobcats. They arn't even the same color as any coyote anyones ever seen...not sure what else would look anything like a mountain lion.

I was pheasant hunting on Saturday in Schuylkill county and came across these tracks on a farm road leading from a hay/ corn field across a creek near a deer farm. If anyone can tell me what made this track I would like to hear your opinion. Looks like a big cat to me. Look at both pics!
