RE: calling ?
Rattling can and will still work even where does outnumber bucks. A buck's testosterone levels rise dramatically in the fall leading to aggressive behavior. They still fight for dominance, and territory, even when they don't have to fight specifically for breeding privileges.

Good luck. Use real antlers or a rattle bag? I prefer the HS rattle bag for its convenience. Real antlers may sound a little better, but they are ackward to carry around. I don't usually start rattling till about Halloween, though I know guys who have had bucks respond very early in the season. Never hurts to have one more trick in the bag.

RE: calling ?
My father had a couple six points running around him the morning out of range and heard them tangling antlers. Not serious clashing or anything, but i would suspect that some soft rattling imitating that would get the attention of any larger bucks int he area, even early in the season.
