Charlie - surely you realize the summer tourists drive them from the Catskills - and they like to head to the shore as much as anybody.
Also gives them the chanceto train their kittens on how to be spotted, but never photographed.:D

Depends on the location. I've heard cougar movement in the midwest has not slowed at all with gas prices possibly due to the ethanol subsidies. According to a local expert, Pa cougars seemed to stop moving when gas hit $3.50. Florida panthers are close enough to Disney world that the word is that most of them have not altered their vacation plans at all;)
