RE: Secondary rut heating up in PA
One thing that specifically chaps my hide Sproul is when I see guys loading up on the fawns with antlerless tags. I know what their reasoning is, that 4 little fawns are better than 1 big doe because they are so much more tender, tasty and easy to carry out of the woods. Well, my problem is that 3 out of 4 of those fawns are button bucks usually. I feel that greed is playing a part there, that these guys are grocery shopping instead of hunting. It's all legal, and if a guy wants to shoot a fawn and go home then that's his choice. It's just that I know of several families that target the fawns specifically for sustenance, not sport. I dunno, just me I guess. On the flip side though is down here, we have so many deer in places that this kind of hunting is actually needed just to keep the pops stable. Like I said...complex. I guess it gets to me because I know that all those potential bucks are taken out. Somehow we still have good hunting the next year, and that part amazes me! But it's true.

RE: Secondary rut heating up in PA
Well if the 2nd rut is still kicking, and they say you should hunt the does during the rut, I may have a good spot for this late season. I saw around 20 this evening. Which sadly enough is almost half the total does I saw during the entire regular season. [&:]
Boy were they edgey though. Whew! |
RE: Secondary rut heating up in PA
Was out yesterday with the flintlock here in PA and saw a buck with it's nose to the ground chasing a doe all over the woods. Must be some rutting activity still going on.
