Did I miss something. I have just moved to Maryland and took my hunter safety course this summer. My wife's boss and I were talking and he asked if I had been out lately. I told him that you can't bow hunt on public land during the current ML season. He said in the state of Maryland you can alway hunt with a lesser weapon. Now I can't find anything that says that in the Hunting and Trapping guide. Does this apply to state land? I figure he is hunting private property and can hunt that way, but I don't know. I would like to know because next year we have a very good lead on some private property that a group isn't renewing next year. Please clear this up for me. I don't have much of a change to call DNR before they close daily at 4, I would have to call the 24 hour number which I think is set up for emergencies, and this isn't an emergency.

There were some changes made last year concerning this. It used to be you could hunt with a bow anywhere, any season but had to obide by whatever season was in rules, IE bowhunting during the gun season you had to wear orange. This applied statewide. I think they changed that last year where you couldn't hunt the gun season but could the ML season. I'm not totally clear on that as I didn't hunt during the gun season at all this year. Lot of Md guys here including a Md Gamewarden so it should get cleard up for you in no time.

CAPT BRAD in the book, which being new to the area, that is what I based by post on. To me it looks like it is closed, if you read the dates. I'm just wondering if I have missed something some other place in the book that gives you permission to hunt with bow during late ML. Or if you can hunt during ML with a bow on private property.
mdbohuntr- Thanks for the post.

Capt Brad, thanks for the info. Now correct me if you think any different, that you can use a bow during these seasons. I guess I need to write the DNR and let them know that they confussed this hillbilly by closing the dates on page 11. Thanks for the help.

Bubba. My interpretation is yes you can use your bow.
Md. has always had one of the most liberal bow seasons in the country. Just during those seasons (gun and muzzie), you must follow guidelines for either gun or muzzeloader. Also if you check in you deer, you will have to use your tag for that season. ie. if you choose to hunt with a bow during muzzie, make sure you have a muzzie stamp. The reason for this, is that some counties have a "Firearms Ordinance" which means certain places can be hunted with a bow, but not with a gun. You can find this at the county police station.
Md laws can be very complicated. You sound like you are covering you bases very well.
I hope this helps and you get a bunch of em'
Good Luck. Capt Brad.
