PA Game Lands
I was wondering if anyone hunts the game lands during the first archery season. It seems to me they would not be very crowded, with hunters opting for other places in order to hunt from a tree stand. Has anyone tried still-hunting and/or ground hunting with any success?? And also what game lands where you hunting??

RE: PA Game Lands
Mossy, I hunt gamelands and National Forest all through the early archery season. I seem to be quite successful in the areas that others don't want to go to like thick grapevine tangles and briar patches. Some of the best hunting is near the parking areas that others overlook. Some other great hunting is farther in where nobody wants to walk to. I've had success in NW PA for years on public land and I owe it mostly to hard work....and a little luck!
I haven't had too many problems with overcrowding in archery, but rifle season is rediculous here. If you're in the NW PA area and want to see some of the places I hunt I'd be happy to take you....I've got more stand sites than most people have socks, so I'm not afraid to point someone in the right direction....I'll still keep my best spots for me though!

RE: PA Game Lands
Even in the gamelands that I hunt, which is extremely heavily pressured most of the year, there is little pressure during archery. The problem as I see it though is that archery season really only lasts for two weeks here. Then the rifle for doe and early muzzleloader seasons start...followed by the small game seasons, etc... At that point the gamelands that I hunt becomes packed with hunters and it is useless to use any tactic other than to watch escape routes early in the morning.
I hunt Gamelands 205 in Lehigh County just outside of Schnecksville.
