Terry, this lodge is in unit 3A. You will get one doe tag for sure and be able to apply for the 2nd, but, on that second one, you may not draw. They may also be getting DMAP tags for the Allegany Natl Forest. Have a good chnace there for a permit.

They might even qualify for some DMAPS on their own. they have enough acreage.

The lodge owner told me he had more doe tags than he needs. I think we're OK. Thanks everybody for the generous offers and help. I hunted once before in Pennsylvania and loved the country and was impressed with the amount of game. I'm looking forward to having a low pressure and fun week and hopefully also get some tender doe meat for the freezer.

No suchguarantee to an out of stater.But to waiste money on a bear hunt in Pa., Not worth it. Anyone has just as good of chance on SGL as they do on posted property. Unless they are baiting. I hunted with Perry Burdick in Smethport, PA last year for opening week of rifle and have never been moreDISAPOINTED in a hunt. I could have done better setting myself up if I had arrived a few days early and done my own scouting.We saw Mr. Burdick for a total of 2 hours over the course of the week and all of that time was spent rocketing through the woods in histruck. Hunted nothing but state lands and the stands were poorly placed with no place to sit. Ended up going to wally World for a couple of 5 gallon buckets as I just can't stand upallday.
I complained that he spent his time hunting with his children and not his sports. He said the kids get opening day off from school in PA for deer. I told him that was not really my concern if he was going to earn his living guiding. He also said he had to spend a couple of days with the PA game commision due to some poaching issue. Again that was not my concern. He called me the Friday before the opener telling me the pipes in one of his camps had broken. Again, not my issue but when I got therehis uncle who owns thecamp told me they had broken 3 months prior. The guy showed my partner and I three stands to use over the course of a full week. All of them poorly built platforms on well used tote roads.Sure saw alot more people than deer walking and RIDING by. I shot a nice doe and a decent buck in MA last year and saw more deerin my back yard than while hunting with Burdick. You get what you pay for I guess and $1000.00 is not much money for a full week of hunting but I would not go back there if you paid the grand!!!  70 treestands??? Food plots???1000's of acres of private land???? the only private land he has access to ishis back yard. I wish I knew he was a used car salesman before I got there. More doe tags than he needs cause no one fills them  |

I was told the private land is newly aquired and 2007 will be the first time he has access to it. If you don't mind answering a few questions: How many people were in camp and how many deer were harvested during your stay? We are not hunting firearms season archery only so I don't expect to see as many people. He did tell me he hunted state land up front.

Seeing as I only saw Perry twice in a week I have to go on what his brother Mark said. As of thursday AM only TWO doe had been shot and nothing was taken opening morning. It was very warm and deer hunting is never a sure thing. It was the complete lack of attention that was the problem. I saw3 stands not 70 that is for sure. All we hunted was state game lands and with only a little bit of time I could have found better places. Those neat picson his site are pictures of deerkilled by his friends not sports.You should ask Perry for some references from last year if he can come up with any. I believe I got burned/ripped off.I did not go there to kill a deer, just to have a quality hunt which I did not. I would not go to Smethport to hunt with that guy if someone else paid.
