FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
#1
This afternoon my best friend and I went hunting. Well, I pushed a small patch of woods out to him and nothing came out. I found this odd because there is ALWAYS deer in it. Well, I went and got set up and he pushed a hill side that is about 1 1/2 miles long that is NOTHING but briars. This place is usually entirely PACKED with deer. I mean, on average, 20 deer will come out of it, but, nothing today. Well, on my way out of my woods, I saw foot tracks. I followed them because nobody should have been on my property. Well, they lead right up to the 3 point that I walked up on Monday morning. Someone shot him right through the base of the neck. Definetly not a instant kill shot. The deer died in a way that made it look like it was bedded down, not the normal fall over deer. I checked out his leg because he was limping and I noticed that it was broke. My guess is that some idiotic piece of trailor trash was walking on my property, tresspassing, saw this buck, shot it, walked up to where it bedded down, then just left it. The deer had his legs tucked under him and everything. When I first saw it, I thought it was just sleeping. I think that he got shot and was already in so much pain from having a broken leg that he just laid there with a bullet in the bottom of his neck and died a slow death. It brought tears to my eyes to think of what that deer went through. He is only a 1 1/2 year old, but he was showing potential. I passed on this guy last year when he was a small spike (2-3" spikes). He had a 12" spike on both sides, but his right side forked with a 7" fork. Not a huge body, maybe 130#, but, he probablly would have been a good one in two or three years. I followed this "hunters" tracks and they lead to a 4 wheeler trail that leads out to the highway.
People like this aren't hunters, they are pieces of crap that don't have the right to call themselves hunters. I hope this person never sees another deer in his life, let alone get a shot at another one. I wish this person the worst luck in life and I wish that with all my heart. I mean, if you shoot an illegal buck and don't want to report it, ATLEAST TAKE THE BODY. It is pointless to leave it lay in the woods to rot. OOOOOOOOOO, I am so ticked right now. Sorry for the long post, I just had to vent.

That sucks to hear that BM. It makes me wonder how many times that happens up there in PA. If it is anything like WV, a lot of people just see horns and start shootin. No doubt there are a lot of spikes and three pointers like this shot and left to rot away, but I guess everything can't be controlled. Good luck keepin your property free of those pests.....

Sorry to hear this BM, but maybe tone down the slow death and pain part, we don't need any more flack than we already get as hunters. Also a shot to the base of the neck, I am assuming you mean where the neck meets the body will kill a deer instantly.

Last week while hunting on our property we had some problems with poachers. They would shoot at any and every deer they saw. WE chased them down later that night. And turned them into the DNR. It makes me sick when people act like that.

That is a SICK and sad story we as hunters need to have more respect for the game. I don't care if its a fish, squirrel, deer, bear, or what ever no one should shoot something just for the heck of it. There is someone that could use that meat if a person shoots something they should take care of there mess.

It really sickens me that some of these scum share the same woods with us. I took some deer that were smaller than I thought over the years (ground shrink), but I would never even consider leaving them to rot. These deer are usually the most tender eating anyway. I have met those that do leave them though. The most memorable was a guy who was poaching the property I hunt. He had just poached the trophy I'd been legally hunting for months while I had killed a small buck. He asked me if I was going to bother dragging it out--should just leave it there. I told him that I was as he shrugged. He was there again the next day to take additional illegal kills (we were allowed just one at the time). He had NO LISCENSE, NO PERMISSION, NO ORANGE and most lacking of all--NO ETHICS.
Today's small bucks are tomorrow's trophies.
