Doug what are you saying the buck to doe ratio was before the 2000 season compared to what it is now?

The buck to doe ratio prior to AR and herd reductions was about 1/2.1.I have no idea what it is now but it's certainly better than that. You have to remember that when game managers talk about the b/d ratio, they're speaking of adult bucks and adult does.Fawns don't count. It's also important to point out that if doe are hunted,it's almost impossible to have a ratio much worse than 1/3.Remember,we've been killing more anlerless than antlered deer for over 20 years.

Look at thisand it will help illustrate the point. The preseason estimate for 2001 was 1.37 million deer.In 2001 there were 203,247 antleredbucks killed. Now assume every buck was killed and none were carried over. With a 1/5 ratio, that would mean we had 1,016,235 preseason doe.Since the recruitment rate back then was about 1.1,we would have had 1,117,859 fawns. When you add it all together, you get 2,337,341 preseason deer.As you can see,the b/d ratio was never as bad as we percieved.

When i retrieved several of my stands last Saturday I noticed several scrapes and new rubs as well. Guess there still could be some yearling does coming in heat??

I found numerous rubs in NWTioga Co. back in October, during archery season. Found more rubs andone fresh scrape therein mid-November. Even found more freshrubs and another scrape during firearms season in late Nov./early Dec.

Bet if I was up there right now, would likely find more scrapes and other signs of a limitedrut still taking place. I've seen spotted fawns up there in the first week of archery deer...take a guess when them little rascalsmust've been conceived, to still be tiny, spotted critters that late in the year?

Who the san hill is simon?

I doubt there's a rut going on around our camp.We killed four and the nieghbor told me poachers killed the 3 1/2 year old ten point we couldn't get.So needless to say we put a dent in the buck population.I hope those young tykes grow up quick and get to rubbin.
A few years back I watched a big boy stop and mount a doe on the first sat of rifle.Don't ask me how he got away though.
