How about this idiot?

Apparently this happened in Franklin PA. Ironically Franklin is the home of the PGC's NW field office.

What an idiot!

Pa. Hunter Fined for 'Bear Fever'[/align]

December 19, 2006 - A northwestern Pennsylvania hunter who said he was suffering from "bear fever" was fined more than $1,500 for firing a crossbow and a rifle at a bear in a residential area.

"You ever hear of buck fever?" Alphonso Lauricia, 72, of Franklin, said in an interview with The Associated Press on Monday. "Well, I had bear fever; I don't even know how many shots I fired."
Lauricia paid $1,584 in fines and court costs for the incident that occurred Nov. 21, the second day of bear season, the Pennsylvania Game Commission announced Monday.
Game commission officials said Lauricia spotted the bear in an oak tree while he was getting gas at a station in a residential area of Franklin, about 50 miles south of Erie.
Lauricia went home to retrieve some hunting weapons. He came back and shot at the bear four times with a crossbow, striking it twice, then fired a .308 caliber rifle at the bear several times as it ran away through the neighborhood, game commissioners said.
The oak tree was just four feet from a garage and within 20 yards of two homes. State gaming laws require hunters to be at least 50 yards from occupied buildings before using a crossbow, and at least 150 yards away if they use a gun - unless they have advance permission from the property owner, which Lauricia did not.
"I was very excited," Lauricia said. "In all my 72 years, I never had a shot at a bear before."
A concerned citizen called the Game Commission's northwest regional office in Franklin to report the shooting.
"This is an unfortunate case of an individual disregarding hunting laws and firearms safety in a reckless effort to kill a bear," said Wildlife Conservation Officer Clint Deniker, who responded to the call. "Thankfully, someone got involved and we were able to apprehend the violator."
Lauricia was caught when he brought the bear to the commission's office in Franklin to have it processed and tagged.
"This individual's only concern was killing that bear, apparently at any cost," Deniker said.
Lauricia said he pleaded guilty and paid the fine Friday for citations of unlawful taking of big game, violating a safety zone and trespass on private property while hunting.

In all honesty it's kind a scarey knowing you're sharing the woods with people like this.

From what I read, the woods were safe from this guy. It was the city streets that were in danger. I hope he never hunts again!

Geez......$1600 bucks was all he was fined for...[:-]
Good thing I don't live in that town and particullary that neiborhood...
Cause for that price, its cheaper doing that, than looking for them in the bush.......
More incidents will be coming if that fine isn't substancially increased.....

What you should find scary is this happened in the city, did the great PA Game Commission get him ,NO of course if you ever tried to call that office you would understand ,because no one answers a phone there!
Did the city police catch an old man running down a city street with a rifle shooting at a bear?? NO----------
This guy guts it , loads it up a takes it to a check station where the quick thinking wardens capture him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get law enforcement work!!!!!!!! Dough nuts for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:o]

Yea at seventy two I'll bet this guy was fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sneaky too. Those new 308's don't make as much noise as the old ones .Probably was driving one of those new Mustang G.T,'s Great handing so I hear.

I bet he gutted it and was outta there in the blink of a glazed dough nut!!!!!!!

At 72 the guy may not have been fast, but we dont know do we? We don't know if the nearest WCO was at the donut shop or on the other end of the county do we? We don't know if the local police or state police were called or if they were close enough to respond in time if called. Assuming the closest WCO was too far away, are you suggesting that the PGC office should have sent a secretary or otherwise unquakified desk jockey down the hillto confront an armed individual whose judgement and regard for the safety of other was obviously way out of whack?

My point is simply that you dont know enough to make the type of criticism you made.

What I'm saying is If a crazed old man can blaze away with a high powered rifle in a town that has the North west P.G.C.Office, City police & state police. Load up a bear and drive away unscathed there just might be a law enforcement problem in that area.
Have you ever called that office ? I have on many occasions. I have I gotten a response ? Some times. The place is a joke!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't see this as a real eye opener then you are as blind as those that refuse to fix the P.G.C. They get no respect because they earn none & this is a blatant example of incompetence in their back yard.

There exists the possibility that you might indeed be right. But my point is that you are making assumptions that you have no right to make. When someone makes a habit of going off without all the facts, people tend to ignor their ranting. If that person someday comes up with a valid point, he tends to getignored based on past experience. It's OK to raise questions. you have a legitimate one, butits not OK to make up your own answers.

No offense, but you guys are getting way off subject. This story making the Associated Press is a complete black eye for hunters everywhere, which this guy is obviously NOT! I can not believe he only got away w/ a small fine. In my book, the penalty should have includedloss oflicense for LIFE,Confiscated his vehicle, cross-bow, rifle, and huntingequipment w/ him, and facedjail-time. And the fact that he claims it was caused by "Buck Fever",is a slap in the face to all hunters.
What he did is called poaching to the worst degree, it was not hunting. He saw his prey, in an area whichwas clearly off-limits. He thenpremeditatedly drove home, andpicked up hisguns, and cross-bows. The cross-bowwas obviously used to be stealthy, and then he got greedy. His actions were extremely dangerous. This should be a poster childcase for PGC to hang this guy out to dry to teach a point that this kind of behavior is not tolerated. Ifear thathis actions, andnow the lack of punishment will encourage others to do likewise, as there is little repercussion for these illegal actions.

BT are you some sort of GC employee or just a wannabe one?
Anyone who knows squat about trying to call in a violation here in Pa knows it is more effort than what it is worth. Place the call, wait to be called back, drive to a meeting place cause the WCO can't as much as find the street you live on,take them to the scene, etc. etc...then after spending a half day doing what is their job in the first place within 5 minutes of reaching the scene heard the WCO exclaim..." too much time has elapsed since the crime, nothing I can do".
Those Bozos I've dealt with were so unfit they rarely get out of their truck and when they do even more rarely do they make it more than 100yds off a road.

Should do what ever one pleases at around that age cause you might have only a few years left.Enjoy real freedom by breaking every law there is as long as innocent people don't get hurt.Like taking his license is goanna stop him from hunting. What another joke.I think I would call them and tell them,Hey I lost my license last year but I got another bear.Where should I take it to you pecker heads.:D

Look, this guy who did this was a moron of royal bloodline, plain and simple. How in the world he got the bear field dressed, loaded in his vehicle and taken to a processor without law enforcement getting him first is somewhat mystifying as well. But they did get the knucklehead.

Morons are everywhere. And, sadly, we do have some who support the morons, root for the morons, and even help the morons.

Kinda like the idiots in NYS who think of Bucky Phillips as a hero. I had an argument with an idiot bleeding heart moonbat about Phillips while he was still on the loose. He actually tried to believe that Bucky was being "made out to be a villian" by the cops and the press! WHAT??? So I fired back....

Let's see, he escaped from jail, a place that he has spent 20 of the last 22 years of his miserable life. He is perhaps the most proficient car theif and burglar NYS has ever produced. He escapes, steals cars, guns, clothes, then shoots a State Trooper doing his job outside of Elmira, NY. Then he shoots two more troopers, KILLING ONE, in Chautauqua County, and the press and copsare "making him out to be a villian?" Methinks he has earned villian status without any help from the cops or the press.

That conversation basically shut that bleeding heart moonbat up.

Seems we have a serious issue with authority and personal responsibility, folks. Our obligation is to obey the law. Of course, if a law is unjust, we have the duty to work to get it overturned or repealed. Doesn't mean we have the right to ignore the laws or justify lawless behavior simply because one may feel like they are "being controlled". You know what? If you cannot control yourself, then perhaps someone needs to do that job for you, complete with striped clothes, gray walls, and windows decorated with steel bars.

The idioit of Franklin PA has earned being treated like a moron. Cannot be defended. If the cops dropped the ball, they deserve to be labeled as idiots as well, for not doing their freaking job. But, this 72 year old moron was caught, given a token slap on the wrist and the case got closed. Luckily, no one was hurt or killed. Had that been the case, rest assured Mr Moron would have received a far harsher punishment than $1500.00 fine...

If you look at some of the posts here and media articlesby prominent USP officers and members, its wouldn't be much of a stretch to think the USP would oppose anything the PGC wants. Pressure from the USP help-ed put a halt to the badly needed license increase legislation this year. I thought "wardens" were part of the PGC!

I agree, just because it happened in Franklin don't mean squat.
Somebody would have to report it first, unless it happened in the front yard of the regional office.

Seems to me the PGC did it's job just fine.
