RE: Only about 5000 coyotes left in Pa according to this.
ORIGINAL: livbucks We should train dogs to locate the dens and then we could exterminate the pups. Sounds like a new sport! Kill as many as you can but you will never get them all. Poisoning is the only way to get them. Unfortunately the poison kills everything else too. |

There is a diference between lie and pulling numbers out of the air.It is not lieing if they guessed. But they should all agree on a number instead of making them look uknowledgable as they been and proving it for the lastfive yearsby changeing the numbers all the time.Ok harry,It's your turn,How many you think are out there?Harry"three hundred thousand deers and eighty thousand coyotes".No Harry,We can't give them that number,We need to sale alot of deer tags again this year. How about nine hundred thousand deer and forty five thousand coyotes.Ok,That will work for me.All agree say I,IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII.

RE: Only about 5000 coyotes left in Pa according to this.
no one knows nuthin'. That's the truth. Its a bunch of estimates based on other state's estimates based on how many coyote (or deer) per Sq Mile (or per acre) some state that actually did field surveys determined.
NY admitted as much for an article I did on Coyote Hunting in 2005. The coyote estimate was pretty much the same as PA's... Between 20,000 and 30,000. Is there some handbook out there for state biologists concerning coyote numbers? Seems like a strange thing that two neighboring states would have the same estimate.... Bear in mind, these estimates were done at least a decade ago. No clue as to where they are at today. A more important question in the face of the reality here. Since F&G depts really have "no clue" as to the exact (or shotgun close) population numbers for any given animal, why are so many hunters pushing QDM? The same hunters who lament the fictional population numbers turn around and trust the DNR, F&G, DEC whatever, will suddenly have the right information? And not just the overall numbers.. Oh no, as QDM demands knowig the structure of the herds, too, accurately (age structure AND buck:doe ratio). Thanks.... |
