i see trend now that will have to be addressed with laws or maybe its already law..
here is few to tell, many before i could talk about that hunters are telling me..
i have spot i have hunted for 42 years..in last 4 years out of state hunters have come into where i hunt..this is STATEFORESTLAND..its publicland land, not private..
i went out sunday to put up my treestand..i usually go into this spot but i knew that others were in there with me last year, so i waited to see if they came this year..i was being nice to give them a little more room to hunt..most would not do what i have..
after i put up my stand ,in came the out of state hunters..they yelled and said, hey, didnt you see all our orange ribbons on trees here?i said yes..they said we came out yesterday and marked our spots, that means this is our spot to hunt..
they also said, you knew we were in here for 4 years now..
i controlled my temper, first, i said , i have been in here for 42 years..means nothing, its STATEFORESTLAND..i also said i could have put my stand up earlier and said as you people have, THIS IS MY SPOT, YOU KNEW I WAS IN HERE FOR 42 YEARS..
my friend called me, same thing, he is 75 years old, has hunted this same area for 60 years..hunter came in 6 years ago and put up the ribbons 2 days before season opened..my friend went there to hunt monday this week..he said he got a knock on hiscamp door ar dark..it was hunter and hunter said,YOU KNEW I HAD MY TREESTAND IN THAT SPOT FOR 6 YEARS..I PUT IT IN THAT SPOT EACH YEAR..YOU SAW MY ORANGE RIBBONS..
THE OLE TIMER SAID, I HAVE BEEN HUNTING THAT SPOT FOR 60 YEARS..its stateforestland ,hev said, i can go anywhere i want..
the treestand hunter said,YOU STAY OUT OF MY SPOT OR YOU WILLFIND OUT!!this took a lot of guts to come to a camp and say this..
i warned that when deer get less hunters greed will take over..
what i am concerned about is that may be our biggest threat to our future hunting..HUNTERS HARRASSING OTHERS ON PUBLICLAND..
i dont like a hunter being 20 or 30 yds from me hunting all day but its PUBLICLANDS and we have no rights to tell another hunter where to hunt or this is my SPOT,even tho i fed deer for 42 years, cut browse, member of sportsman clubs local, paid taxes on land to state..
you can hunt where you want and no hunter should be able to harrass another hunter in woods..
i really think this needs to be looked at by thepgc and dcnr..i have seen hunters that i feel would pull a gun on you to get you to hunt elsewhere..
what is your opinion on this??i am in process of contacting the pgc to find out what laws are in affect..
hunters are getting desperate now and with all doe killing over last 5 years here in pa.herd is way down and hunters are getting desperate for deer..
this could be biggest threat to our hunting other than gun control..

hunter harrassment laws in NJ are great at protecting the hunters.
i hope they are just as tough on hunters harrassing hunters as they are on outsiders harrassing hunters.

I think it is more of a lack of respect in society as a whole. No one is considerate of others at all. There's always been actions like this, but in general I think people are more rude these days. I don't think its a matter of the doom and gloom deer herd size, just a matter of society in general.

I honestly dont think there is anything we can do about this. I live in wisconsin but i like to go back to Pa to hunt. I dont have much time to scout for the out of the way deer spots and every now and then I sit in a spot that someone else is in but if i do i get up right away and leave. I dont know why people fight over spots. I mean come on I am sure if you just walk a little further you will find another spot. You all should just do me one favor and be the bigger person and leave if someone comes into your spot. A deer is not worth getting shot over.

My cousin and I have been going to the same hunting area for 28 years and we've had a few occassions where guys claimed they have been hunting in the area for 10 years or so. There hasn't been any trouble with these guys to this point and we intend to stay in the area next year and there after. We usually outlast most other hunters there's still plenty of land there for everyone. I just wish they'd sit still a little longer during the day.

Not sure Sproul... sorry to hear about the jerks though. I hunt public land in NJ, and I just keep moving to stay away from others, I find most of those jerks won't go far from a road if they can help it.
