The most accurate way to determine the deer population would be for the 60+% of so called hunters that are too lazy to send in a report card,to do so.

Yes,Thats why you have them vote for their county on doe hunting...This will work when your above failed to work....Guaranteed....

This way everyone has a say so on doe hunting or not in the county they hunt....

Actually, the most effective and comprehensive way to get people to send in a report card is the way Idaho does it. You send in a hunting report card or make a phone call and report how many days you hunted and what your saw, wether you were successful or not, if you dont report, you dont get ahunting lic. next year, plain and simple.

Might work here. I hope the PGC goes to computerized/ point-of-service type licensing soon and they could easily implement that. 100% reporting...now we can hope they (we) do it truthfully.

You just solved the problem the PGC has on getting a fix on deer harvest numbers. Plain and simple, the problem is solved. But the PGC won't hear any of it. They wouldn't be able to come up with they numbers they want to use to sell license for deer that aren't there.

Its a shame that this good idea wasn't thought of by the PGC. Or was it?

Once again your bias and lack of knowledge about the subject is showing.

The Game Commission thought of a better reporting system a long ago, but the State Legislature didn’t change the law to allow for anything other then a mail in report card until less then a year ago.

We can’t start computerized accounting and reporting based on licenses until we have a computerized license system which is finally scheduled to go into affect next year. We couldn’t go to a computerized system any sooner because we couldn’t take that much money out of the general operating budget. It probably wouldn’t be happening now except for some extensive long term budgeting being combined with grants and help from the Fish and Boat Commission to share the expense along with the licensing system.

How does the PGC know if a hunter buys more than one hunting license?

Or sends in more than one elk application?


Or sends in for more than one bonus license on the same day?

You got to be keeping track somehow, right now.

If a hunter were to send in for 3 bonus tags, all mailed in different envelopes, next week, wouldn't you guys be able to track it?

I'd think that you could and by whatever means you have been using over the last several years, could have been tweeked to see that hunters report deer harvests before getting next years hunting license.

It could be as simple as bringing the card to the license issueing agent when the new license is purchased. If alicense year would run from January to January, this idea would work even better. I understand the need to get a fix on deer harvest numbers as early as possible. So maybe a dead line of sorts for reporting. If a guy can't afford a license yet he can still drop off the report card and get a voucher to use when he is ready to buy.

I just think there are many ideas to be explored here.

I still like the ideas of check stations also. They do it in WV even with their struggling economy.

You guys are good with excuses, I'll give you that.

By the way, your lack of knowledge about the taxidermy business is showing also.

To think that making a taxidermist pass a test issued by the PGC will control how he runs his business after he gets his license.


How long has testing been required in PA? How many years?

And when did the CWD start becoming big news?

A lot of time difference there.

And you coming on here trying to make it appear that the PGC only has testing to protect PA from CWD and to protect hunters from getting a bad mount job. Come on!

Who did you think you would fool with that line?

The agency has not met it's 1% timbering goal in several years. Perhaps if they cut a full 1% as opposed to the usual 1/2 % they would have a little extra cash on hand.

What percentage has the agency cut this year Dick, and have they recieved payment on it yet?

Also, how can one obtain a copy of a recent timbering contract? It should be public record.
