Did you guys get yours in the mail already? I applied for zone 3. I'm sure I'll get one of those... my father always tries for zone 2... They only give out about 100 for zone 2. He got one last year... hopefully again this year.
Did receive my bear permit yesterday though.

I usually don;t see the mailed permit until Sept but who knows. Bear season starts Sept so they had to get those out.

I was born and raised in the Berkshire Mountains of Western Mass (Lenox) in the 1950s and 1960s and I amquite certain there were no bears around even though I lived in a pretty rural area. Is there actually a huntable bear population in Mass now? When I was a kid hunting in the Berkshires outside of a 1 week deer season was pretty much rabbits and woodchucks. When did Mass suddenly become overrun with big game?

Good luck Jamie I got my fingers crossed for you.

Doc. You have been out west too long. Our deer seasons have been expanding for years now and we can't keep up with them. Belive it or not the most populated areas in the state have the most deer as per the DFW. The South Shore (Zone 11) has basicly unlimited doe tags and has been leading the state in total harvest. The Berkshires has the lowest population with Zone 2 (North West) going through the worst problems. Come on back and visit us all you got to do is take a little ride in the evening. We just had a new reel of a deer running around the streets of Dorchester. I am hoping the Blue Hills will open for archery season next year they are over run big time. The bear are expanding like crazy the tree hugers have stoped hunting with dogs and over bait so the harvest is way down from what they want, so they are thinking of new ways to harvest mor bear. But having the worst gun laws in the country it restricts a lot of good people from being able to hunt any more and no one wants to come here to hunt their all afraid of our laws and I can't blame them.
Its not Kansas or Illinos but we have got plenty of deer I even managed to get 4inthis statelast year. Mike

Exactly guys... I seea ton of bear and have killed 3 in MA so far.
There are limited #s of people hunting them, plenty of food, and no other predators other than the few hunters for them. They keep multplying like rabbits!
The kill every year is extremely low too... because noone wants to hunt them. Can't bait... Can't run them...
Did I mention you can't bait?

Hey hunter can you give us any pointers I have never hunted bear not that I don't want to I just haven't figured it all out with no bait how do you scout and figure them out. And what do you think is the best area in Mass to go (not wanting you to give your spots away) just a general area. Mike
