New England States Turkey Hunting??
#1
Howdy,
Anybody have any good leads or suggestions for guides or pay for access private hunts in any New England States? I'm thinking Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, CT, Massachusetts, ??
I've talked to a few guides that are mainly trout fishermen but offer turkey hunting but they are steep......375/day to hunt PUBLIC land with them - 2-3 day minimum. I don't want a guide per se but would prefer to hunt private land and pay a 'trepass' fee.
I've hunted OK, KS, WI, IL, IA, MI, PA so far and am going to attempt, over time, to hunt turkey in every state in this great country!
Any leads, advice, suggestions or otherwise would be greatly appreciated! If you hae any other 'highly recommended guides/hunts outside of New England I'd love to hear about them as well!

In general in New England, the trespass fee/lease idea has not gotten here, THANK GOD!
for the most part, private land is gotten by knocking on doors, there is lots of public land as well.
Haven't ever seen ads for Turkey guides in NH, mostly guides here are for bears/moose.

Robert-
Out of NY I know many guys who have enjoyed hunting Stuyvesant Farm for turkey and were very happy. A lot of big birds and mostly agricultural areas. 518-758-2291
In NH, I'd suggest forgoing the guide. I could point you in the direction of birds as they are all over. If you want a guide - http://www.wildernessadventureshunt.com/Allan has turkeys all over.
In Maine, you need to apply for the permit. There are some guides for turkeys up there, but not many... yet.
Kind of a cool personal challenge you have set for yourself, trying to hunt turkey in every state. Good luck.

Jay's advice is excellent.
No need for guides in some states. Plenty of Turkeys on MA and VT state lands, and the pressure is not too bad.
Upstate NY has afew places for pay to hunt. Not NE, but maybe what you want.

A guide for Turkey in NH is like a guide for lake trout. Turkey are abundant in most areas in NH and if you lookaround you will see plenty of public and private lands that can be hunted. NH Fish and Game sites have much info onturkey hunting andemail them and/or call these guys and they will talk to you about populations and some ideas on hunting areas.

Vermont is wide open with a ton of birds statewide and lots of public land. It is an open state and hunting is allowed on all non posted pieces. It is always a good idea to ask first though to promote good sportsmanship.

Ya know I am so tierd of you money people screwing up hunting. Keep out of all New England we don't need you we don't want you and shove your money up where the sun don't shine. Hunting is a few friends who get together and go out for a good time or a father teaching his kids the joy of being out with nature. Not Dad kid and a guide who leases up sll the land so that the honest hard working guy can no longer just go out and hunt cause the out of staters have come in with there money and leased up all the hunting rights. I have been forced to live in the south and saw first hand what guides and clubs have done there and its ugly. I came back home for half pay just to get away from all that. I don't need you bringing the worst part of the south and west up here to us. We in New England should all band together and stop this from happening. If you don't belive me go down south and try to hunt with out paying hundreds of dollors per person just to have land to hunt on. Then they pin point you to a spot and tell you if you leave that spot you will be thrown out while they run all around the woods trying to cut off any deer that may come your way. And teaching your kid forget it you do as they say and how they say to do it. I beg you if you don't belive me go down soulth and find out first hand. Or you can hunt public land that is so over crouded that they have to have special regs which are a whole lot less liberal then private land. Belive me guys we don't want this its worst then the world hunting ever thought to be. If you don't want to see our great New England tradition of hunting ruined then stand up aginst these guys cause after the first one get in its all down hill from there.

Up here in Maine you should not have a problem. No guides needed
to hunt turkeys. The southern half of the state has the most turkeys.
And getting a place to hunt should be fairly easy to obtain. Around
the farms alot of people do not like the turkeys as they have been
getting into the grain silows and the corn ect.... The droppings in the pastures for cows to walk thru and all the rest of it are making them
feel uneasy about the turkeys in those areas. So good luck.
