The animal's neutered state indicates that it was probably being kept as a pet but escaped or was released by its owner. Wolf-dog hybrids are illegal to possess as pets in New York state.
Wow that is huge!

I always got a kick out of that pic, as 1)-I knew it wasnt a coyote, 2)- I live fifteen minutes from Hilton and this didnt happen there when it was originally reported as so, and 3) CO Bob Doe is my neighbor, and he didnt say those things. StillI argued with everyone for about a year over it. Just goes to show you!

Actually, Ive heard of reports of two different coyotes that were supposed to be in the 80 lb range, both were reported in the paper, both I knew first hand to be a farce.

The largest coyote I ever handled from NY state was an official 59 lbs. That was big, and Im sure theres some pushing 75lbs out there somewhere. Thats canis latrans, eastern coyote, no crosses.Fun subject!
