Weapon Archery...9 point 11/11/05
Rifle doe 12/5/05
Area: 3C
Deer sightings: In archery 6-18/day Hunted the last week of archery with another guy and we saw total 17 different buck between the two of us.
Rifle season: I hunted with the bow the first day and saw 6, ironically the only shot I had was at a small legal buck. We hunted the 2nd week of rifle. We saw buck every day including 4 shooters of which we got one. Saw several smaller bucks and quite a few doe. It was funny because reports of "my hunting neighbors" for the first week indicated that there were no deer left. Very few sightings and little sign. After it snowed on Friday (after they all left) There was deer and deer sign everywhere.

Deer Shot: 0
Weapon Used: 30-06 & .50 cal Flintlock
WMU #: 3B
Days Hunted: 5
# of deer seen: 1-5 per day
From my logbook:
Opening day of rifle, I passed on a 6 point at 20 yards (got so close because of the heavy fog.) This buck hung around my treestand for over 45 minutes before it was chased away by some approaching noisy hunters. It was the only deer I saw that day.
2nd day of regular firearms season, I saw 0 deer.
First Friday of rifle season, I passed on a 5 pointer thatwas within 45 yards of my treestandfor at least 20 minutes. Only deer I saw that day.
First Saturday of rifle, I saw 1 doe.
Yesterday, I hunted flintlock, and I saw 12 deer (9 of them while driving to/from) our hunting spot. I could have shot a large bedded deer from ~50-60 yards that I walked up on while putting on a small silent mini-drive to my Dad along with my borther.I could not seethe deer's head to tell if it was buck or doe before it spooked and bolted. It was definitely a VERY LARGE deer, and I supsect it may have been a big buck.
Sadly, I saw almost as many coyote and bobcat tracks as deer sign while walking the woods.
The deer population is patheticly low in 3B this year.
