2 way radios
I see a lot of hunters in NY using 2 way radios and cell phones. Have seen hunting shows stating that it is illegal in some states to use communication devices to give location of game. SO, does anyone know if 2 way radios are illegal to hunt with in New York?

I think the Garmin GPS radios have some nice features. You can find the exact location of another person that is using a Garmin GPS radio and it will tell you the distance between you and the person you are talking to. These features are only good froma Garmin GPS radio to another Garmin GPS radio.

From what I understand they are perfectly legal, but you can not use
them to give away games position. They are only to be used in
communication of people, meeting up, your position, etc. Babe Winkelman
and his wife Kristeen were sited by Minnesota Conservation Officers for
using them to give off a deers position. He had to pay a fine and give a
public I'm sorry. The game wardens monitor these radio's believe it or
not. Field and Stream had aarticle on this last year after the incident.
They had interviews with severalgame wardens and they have to keep up
with techinology too.I use them all the time, but not to give off game
locations. They are great for all kinds of outdoor activities. I let my kids
use them when we hunt, it gives them a feeling of independence, but
keeps them as close as the PTT ( Push To Talk ) button.

I don't know about NY but the PA rules are.........
"Portable, two-way radios and cell phones may be used for general communications with another hunter, but may not be used to direct or alert another hunter of the presence or location of live game or wildlife. The use of electronic communication devices to alert hunters to live game is not only a violation of the Game & Wildlife Code, but violates the definition of Fair Chase."

This is some very interesting info that I never really thought about.Nothing in Delaware hunting book regards 2 ways - but I'll have to double ck to make sure??
I use 2 ways and have to admit I've listened to other hunters on adjacent property devulge game location. I have also used them to do the same.

I stopped into the Delaware F&G office today to inquire about use of 2 way radios. Was told no regs on the use while hunting or use to devulge position of game/deer.
