Finally! Got a BB at 7:30am this morning. 25 yd shot with 00 Buck. Dropped him in his tracks. Field dressed about 75lb. My dad saw a doe but it never came in range. One of the other guys that hunts with us got a 5 pt right at first light.

Fair amount of shooting but I expected more since it was such a nice morning.

Im going to relax and this afternoon and sleep in tomorrow AM. I'll head out tomorrow evening in search of something a little bigger. It'll be so nice to throw some venison on the grill again after a 2 year hiatus.

How'd everyone else fair?

1st time in decades I've been unable to hunt on opening day "Morning"(A bummer).
Nobody on our farm shot AM or PM.One guy passed on a 4 pnt in morning. I got in stand at 3:25pm.At 4:50 pm shot a very nice 7pnt in marsh at around 85yrds.Just short of 16" spread and about 180-185 (on the hoof). Not a trophy but a respectable deer,I'm satisfied - for now. There is a real monster on farm(have pics) that I would love to get in my x-hairs.

That makes 2 does and Buck so far.I'm taking a break Sat morning(Sleep).Maybe hunt in afternoon.Might take a doe and donate to charity.

I've been in Md hunting since Thur (10th) and returned home(Del) today. Fri when I talked to my wife she said there was 2 trucksat a neighbours house that had hugh bucks in them and a gang of people looking them over. I didn't know guns had opened but figured it had after she told me of these bucks. Will try to find out where they came from but I don't know the people but if I see them outside the house I will surely inquire.

Was out today from 2:30 til dark. Same stand as yesterday. Saw 1 deer on the farm across the way and that was all. The guy across from me shot at 5pm. Figured I was done at that point. The weather people screwed up the wind forecast again, but i'm getting used to that. Never thought I'd be dealing with so many SE winds this time of year. Freaky weather.

I'll be out Monday and Tuesday evening weather permitting.

Congragulations AJ52 and Duck on the deer, it's just not my year. I did not get drawn for White Clay creek's morning hunt on Friday, but I did for the evening. The stand on either side of me got a doe, and I didn't see a thing. My buddy scoreda 6pt. in the morning though. Saturday I was at my buddies place, and I had two working the hedgerow towards my stand. I first saw them at about 250yds, and they were comming right for me, when at about 80yds they dipped in to the woods, they weren't spooked or anything, just bad luck. They normally would work directly towards the stand, and cross into another field on a path about 20yds from the stand. They dipped into the woods durring the 10yds a tree branch was blocking there veiw. Uhh, I could of took one of them at 85yds, but I wanted to wait for the 20yd shoot. It's just not my year. I will be out early next week, hopefully.

Looks like Im going to have to adjust my plans again for the weather. Its a good thing I have a flexible job. Tuesdays not looking good, so i'll switch up to Thursday. Im holding out hope the wind wont swing east tomorrow before nightfall. I was thinking of switching to Friday but going Thurs - Sat is alot of driving. Its 100 miles round trip each time I go.

Keep the reports coming!

Albeit warm, the wind is good this afternoon so I'm heading down. If I see amything, it'll probably be the last hour of the day. Should be a nice sit though.

Nothing tonight. Saw a buck chasing a doe around 3:40 and 3 more deer right at sunset but they were a long ways off to the north. No shooting on the surrounding farms. Did hear some shots on the public land though around 4:30.

My buddy called me at 2:30pm on Tues to say he just shot a ******* monster buck that was bedded with a huge doe.He was just a bit excited and hyperventilating while talking on cell phone.

A 13pt piebald,22 1/2"spread,dressed 190.Long body deer with patches of white on legs, shoulders, hind 1/4.I will try to post pics

He is the largest rack shot to date on this farm and probably anywhere close for some yrs.He shot his deer not 100yrds from where I took my 7pnt opening day/evening which BTW was bedded not 50yrds from his stand.

Aged by Delaware biologist at 4.5yrs.They told him they would mail a report on genetic background etc... Not only did he score with a trophy rack but one with obvious piebald traits.A once in a life time buck for sure! This makes the 2nd piebald shot on our farm in 8 yrs. 1st was a perfect basket 8pnt.That piebald buck was a real retard lookin mess.

He and I made a set up for 3 stands on Sunday to pull deer from adjacent 600 acre farm. It worked! We have a another "Bullwinkle" on or around farm that I got trail cam pic about 3 weeks ago. He's 7-8-9pnt(?) with huge main beam.Well over 200lbs++ and looks to be at least 3.5 - 4.5.

Nothing tonight. The boy of the guy I lease the field from shot 2 small deer at sunset. He broke a 7 year drought so I dont feel as bad. Fair amount of shooting around dispite the wind. My father is going tomorrow and we'll both go out Saturday morning.

anyone know about a 20 pointer that was taken out of lums pond? I was at black bear when I heard about it. Is someone pulling my chain?

AJ52 11-19-2005 08:21 AM

RE: DE Shotgun Season Opener

Yep - the guy shot 20pnt a 6pnt and 2 does at Lums.Estimated weight was 180-190.OS spread was 24".7-8 pnts broken/damaged from early season fights and rubbing.

It was taken in area D which just opened for hunting last year.Between pond and Buck Jersey Rd,above the old swimming area.I have 2 pictures but having trouble posting.

Hunted today from sun up to 1pm. Saw a couple a ways off at 9:30 and that was all. No one else was out at any of the surrounding farms. Looks like people were more interested in preparing for geese on Monday.

So thus ends Nov shotgun. At least I finally have some meat in the freezer. Time to give the land a break hunting wise. I'll keep the bait piles fresh and hope for some cold weather (aka snow) in the weeks to come.

Glad to here the Lums deer was legit, just wish I could bag something this year.

Saturday, I missed twice on the same deer, arrow went wide right twice. I don't know if I screwed up twice or ifmy sight or rest somehow got messed up. I was shooting over some brush but I doubtI hit something twice. Both arrows curved indenticallyright. After the first miss the deer just looked around walked and gave me another broadside shot and i missed again. even after the second shot the deer did not get scared and walked around the area for25 minutes.

AJ52, can you email me the pics of the lums 20 pointer. [email protected]

Deer was aged at 4.5 - 5.5yrs.Weighed in at 190.Picture doesn't do justice to the fantastic markings on this animal. The guy in pic and I have been trying to put together a plan of attack on this farm for 4 yrs but he's always been busy.Muzzle season it rained all week. We looked at a series of trail cam pics taken over 3-4 week span and finally put together a strategy for 3 stands during early shotgun. It paid off for both of us. I got a decent 7 pnt. He got the once in a life time trophy! I don't begrudge the guy a bit - he's one of those few guys that is a pleasure to hunt with.

xi,
Glad to see you got em posted. This ole boy was really rubbin and scrappin early on. He's got at least 6-7 damaged pnts.I imagine alot of guys will be hunting around Lums in Jan lookin for his twin brother. Alot of These state parks have some mouldy oldy bucks that been hiding out for years and never get shot at.I know the guy that bagged this Bullwinkle is one Happy Camper!

o my..my son attended the camp there in 2004 and he said that while on nature walks they would see alot of tracks in certain areas..the deer are there for sure:) they are probably a little more tolerant of human movements and smells too. i might give it a shot there next year:) great deer and i need to read the story

Rick, Killens Pond is going to open for hunting ,never been hunted in the park system , that's below you a little. Trappe Pond always produces some whoppers as well., lthe deer at Lums are behind the main office in all that thick stuff, lots of autumn olive and other food.

Sounds like a plan to me for next year. Looks like we just lost our place in Mdafter the 12-31.and we wern't even there. Others that are allowed to hunt there really messed it up.
