If you purchased the rifle in a store in the last few years I understand yer question. In fact though, you did not "register" the firearm, you merely particapated in the usless background identifacation process. This information is suppose to be only held temporarily<yea right>.You may sell your rifle, shotgun,or any long gun anytime to anyone over the age of 18 anytime.Of course its always prudent to either ask the individual if you dont know them,if they have a prior felony record. It can not be held against you if they do,but it could make for some agravation.

Not a lawyer or anything but how about have the person sign sa document that states he is a resident of NY and ciutizen of the us and that he has never been convicted of a felony or domestic violence and knows of no reason that would prevent him from legally owning a firearm. Also put his name and driver's license number on it and have him sign it. Put it away for safekeeping to cover yourself in the future should anything happen and they come knocking on your door. Just an idea. I would get something though.
