SuperDave - Wow, really is a small world. Sorry to hear about your camp's low success rate in getting the 9W DMU, but I'm hearing the same story all over if it makes a difference. Although not exactly familiar with where you're at, I know the general area as I drive right past your camp on rt 16 on my way to my buddy's camp.
Despite seeing fewer deer last season than in previous years, we still bagged 17 in our camp of 9 guys. These guys seriously though. I mean they're out during archery, reg season, and then muzzleloader. Some aren't married so they have plenty of time to spare. Amazing how quiet opening day has become compared to 15 years ago.
Best of luck to you and your camp this year. By the way, ever eat breakfast at "Earl's" on opening day? It's a zoo !!!

thanks john...good luck to your camp too......we stay away from all places for breakfast.......mondays we go to the bowling alley and eat diner and watch some football...but other than that we eat at camp..........i think there is still a chance at dmps.....last year my friends dad put in for a permit that was out east....the % was low and he was denied...however when the extra permits came out there were some left for that area...figure that... so maybe there is a chance....but ihunt bow, ml, and reg season so i have 4 tags to fill which is plenty for me........i did get a permit for the bethany area (near bativia)....im just ready to huntin.........

SuperDave - Yeah, I'm ready to go huntin' too! Just got back from Gander Mountain for something to do at lunch while at work and they had all the huntin' goodies are on display: camo, slugs, tree stands, scent, lots and lots of stuff to spend your hard earned $s on! Compared to all the neighboring states, the NYS season always seems to open last.[:@] Wish they would have moved the archery opener to Oct 1, but I'm not trying to start a debate here, it's just MHO. Anyways, nice that the archery opener falls on a Sat....I can already see all the 4 wheelers being trailored on rt 16 Fri night Oct 14.
By the way, have you or guys in your camp been seeing (or hearing) coyotes of late? Last year, we had 6 sightings and heard them every night yippin' and yappin.' A female 'yote tried to run past me during a drive on the last Sat of the reg season...1 oz slug quickly took care of her. Farmer down the road found a coyote den on the back side of one of his ponds with 18 turkey legs scattered about. 'yote season always open in our camp! Again, seeing any coyotes?

Superdave and hunter john It truly is a small world. We go to the bowling alley a few times for cocktails and mostly eat at camp. We have about 82 acres to hunt on private and another 50 that we have permission to hunt on and i seen many deer last year and i hear the coyotes every night out in the near distance and so does my chessie... We should get together some during the season and shoot the bull and maybe suck down a few whatevers...
Take care Jim
